Liverpool update: After the embarrassing Virgil van Dijk saga, I hope LFC walk away with whatever little honor they have left and don't come back later in the window and agree a deal for the player, but there is a chance that they will for a huge transfer fee.
So far, and it is very early in the window but all 5 of Klopp's first choice players looks unlikely. Van Dijk's situation is well publicized and I don't know who else they will target though I know of reports of a rejected bid for Stefan de Vrij.
Brandt wanted guarantees, not assurances, about playing time, which most bigger clubs will never agree to. This is why even Bayern have backed off and are concentrating on other targets. Salah is the alternative and should be completed next week.
Ryan Sessegnon doesn't want to leave London and LFC's relationship with Fulham is not great, and besides that, they wanted to bring the kid in to initially start for the under-23's like Solanke and Alexander-Arnold will be, but his representative didn't agree to that. Spurs looks like his most likely destination with a loan back to Fulham for a season or two. Klopp wants a young LB to eventually usurp MIlner which I personally don't agree with, but that is where it is going with interest in Josh Tymon, Kieran Tierney and Andrew Robertson who seems the most likely as well as previous interest in Ben Chilwell which is gone now. Benjamin Mendy was looked at but the outrageous price made sure we end our interest in him while Ricardo Periera is not being pursued disappointingly.
Ben Brereton was the initial target as the young striker but the academy ban has sort of forced them into going for a player more ready for the first team like Solanke (who will be registered with the first team but will play most of next season for the under-23's).
Naby Keita doesn't want to move and his team doesn't want to sell and this looks like it is pretty much gone now. Alternative targets like Milinkovic-Savic, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ruben Neves were all looked at but probably won't be followed upon. I think there is a decent chance Klopp might move Coutinho to CM and use Salah as the LW and that along with Grujic's and Henderson's improved fitness and Emre Can's new contract (will be signed soon) could well be enough for central midfield.
Also it appears Klopp might have had a change of heart with Sturridge and Mignolet expected to stay while Lucas, Moreno, Sakho, Awoniyi, Jones, Maninger, Brannagan, Randal, Kent, Markovic, etc will be solved and loans are likely for Ojo, WIlson, Ward, Allan, Fulton and perhaps Gomez.
