Clubs like MB, EB, Md. Sp. are impossible to buy because of enormous clout and power they have. But it is possible to buy small clubs. Like Churchill Brothers took over Varca Club in Goa. I dont know the actual deal but just giving you one example. Always better to start a new club rather then carrying the old baggage. These clubs are like Sports Associations where people with clout keep on selecting each other. You scratch my back and I scratch yours.You think is it easy to remove people like Platini from UEFA or Blatter from FIFA even though you may have money? The office bearers in Sports Bodies are like Zamindars (Plantation owners) and you need to really destroy the plantation if you want to get rid of them. They will not leave but rather drown with it.
Well, I will be honest, I hope your wrong. The reason I bought this up is because, after the EB and MB merge/dont merge thing and all this talk of franchises etc the thought came to mind of whether Kolkata football and/or I-League could survive without East Bengal or Mohun Bagan.
IMO, they both cant. We need East Bengal and Mohun Bagan as the history they provide, the fanbases, and just the overall features can not be missing. Plus I would find it hard that a new franchise club would succeed in Kolkata with EB and MB around. So ya, I like these clubs and I feel they can lead us into the future but to be honest I absolutly hate the way they are ran. It is all just so old fashioned. You dont get the feeling that they are modern yet and honestly I feel they could do with a revamp.
