We should not forget Hockey PHL (Premier Hockey League) from 2005 to 2008. It was conducted with the help of ESPN. Those leagues (PHL, WSH, ICL) were different then IPL in the sense that they were actively promoted by a particular TV channel with the association while IPL concept makes Franchise holder supreme while TV channel do not have that much control and title sponsors keep on changing.
This has nothing to do with the model of the IPL but for gods sake, why the hell is the president of the BCCI also the owner of one of the teams?
Also, why is there no rule out there that "If a person who has close ties to a sports team or league is accused of any betting allegations that it gets to the courts then they are suspended for 6-months or barred from entering any game at any level for 6-months." Something like that.
I am a massive golf fan... yes, it is slow but it is far from boring. Golf is one of the most watched and played sports in the entire world. People fight just for tickets to tournaments involving Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Rory Mcilroy.
And hell, they even get all the girls... I saw Justin Rose's in 2008... DAMN GIRL!!!!!!!!
Further, not only Office bearers own teams, Dhoni has shares in Rhiti Sports which is a Sports marketing company which also manages other players like Jadeja, Raina. Dhoni gets cut from the earnings of players of his company-so he has conflict of interest in selecting them for National Team.
Whenever you see retired players like Kumble and many others sitting on Bench on different IPL Teams, they are pushing their players whom they sponsor/market into different teams for financial gains.
Now it is debatable that this is right or wrong to promote your players into team especially if you have position of influence.
