    To be honest there's good amount of coverage for basketball in north and south where it's widely played out in schools and colleges 
    And surprisingly NBA's gotta very good following in India
    I think even though we can't win any major tournaments we can be an big influence in asia owing to the facts that we defeated some major teams in asia including china whose investment in basketball will put our whole sports industry to shame

    @atuljg i guess you are not a early riser.. everyday NBA matches are telecasted... i am watching Golden state warriors run since their 10th win..

    The problem is the timing which is clear form you comment that not many new users are exposed to the game due to its odd timing as per IST it is usually 5 am; 7:30 am and 10 am slots..

    This is also the reason why basketball league might flourish as it dont need to fight with best league in time slot.. fingers crossed..

    Yup, it is played in many schools due to minimal infrastructure and land requirements. But it usually ends with that.

    Even without proper investment and grassroots we've made some real progress 
    I'm hopeful  that if we get it right we can be a power house in asia
    btw there are loads of basketball competitions in school and college levels in kerala especially in tvm
    Companies even recruit players from the competition *Personal experience

    In my opinion, Volleyball is more popular amongst masses in India as compared to basketball. 
    NBA can make Basketball popular but the timings are very bad. Evening in USA means early morning in India and it will hardly get TV viewers.

    Basketball is the new 'cool' sport .Similar to what football was 4-5 years ago. Now football is normal and basketball new addition for the urban metro kids. That is the case atleast in Delhi.

    Anybody watched the Golden state warriors vs lakers game?? the warriors were playing such a beautiful passing game and crushed possibly one of two most famous teams in NBA...  if these games are shown to the kids they would easily take the game

    India lost the test series to Australia in shoot out..what was impressive was we kept our cool and won the game 3-2 in the last 10 seconds..however I doubt Australia ever plays full strength in the test matches..their performance will definitely go up a notch in the HWL..still impressive stuff from india
