Not exactly sure the players are that much of a problem. The only real problem with them is that some of them were already retired but guys just coming from Europe or South America and well playing like Elano, Lucio, Postiga are not terrible signings for marquees. Roberto Carlos, Freddy Ljungberg, Luis Garcia (now), and Robert Pires were the ones that should be made.
I think the problem is more with the celebrity owners. Fans coming for them is bad, fans coming for marquee players is not. If they come to see the players then there is not much doubt that they have an interest in football, have watched these guys play at the highest level, or are just starting their fandom. Fans coming for celebrities are not for the game but who knows, they may come in for Dhoni and then come back for Elano and Mendoza.... who knows. Its the club's job to create an identity and connect with the fans that means more than just the marquees.
Oh ya, for sure. A lot of people came to the Red Bulls for Henry and not anymore that he left... that is why you replace them with another former star and/or you do something to convince them the team is more than just the marquee.
1) Raghunath and company are very average in Defense-keep on conceding PCs regularly. 2) Sreejesh is not in best form and sadly we do not give much opportunity to other goalkeepers either. 3) Sardar Singh is aged and slow. The whole strategy of making a counter attack with slow Sardar Singh in the fulcrum is flawed as his passes are caught by the opposition. Our coaches should try Manpreet Singh in that role. 4) Both forwards Ramandeep and Akashdeep fail to get Penalty Corners. They fail to take advantage of Rupinderpal Singh.
Forget about medal, we will be lucky to finish anything above 12th in the next Olympics with this team.
Munna I saw all the three matches India was very poor in the first match against Argentina. Played well against Germany . & about today match we also got chances but couldn't convert in goals .i agree with you pr. sreejesh was in poor form )
India disparately needed gurbaj Singh in the midfield who can hold the ball in the midfield & need striker Chandi (* though chandi was poor in finishing he can control ball well in the team he is mini robin Singh for hockey team)
Chandi had improved by leaps and bounds..then he got injured and lost his form..Mandeep Singh was there..a fragile guy but really takes his chances like anything..some one who can score out of the blue..Ramandeep's form has gone down..the 2 guys really hurting the team right now are Talvinder and Jasjit..poor players
