The Kerala High Court on Monday issued notice to the All
India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Referees Committee and other
respondents on a writ petition filed by Bentla D’couth, country’s first
woman FIFA referee and now an Asian Football Confederation’s Elite
Referee Instructor, Assessor, and Referee Recruiter, challenging the
decision of the committee to suspend assignments given to her,
especially in foreign countries.
In her petition, she
said the decision of the committee was illegal and discriminatory. She
alleged that she had been banned because she had asked for national
men’s assignments as an AFC Elite Instructor and Assessor as the AIFF
had not conducted any women’s events after May 2011. She said she had
been humiliated by AIFF’s Head of Referees Department Goutam Kar. By the
decision, the petitioner’s right to officiate national tournaments had
been denied.
She said the action amounted to blatant
gender discrimination. She alleged that there was violation of principle
of natural justice by the committee.
She sought to quash the decision of the committee.

Good decision from the IOC. Just appalling how the sports are ran in this country. I bet you that if they added cricket to the Olympics then the Indian Olympic Association would be one of the cleanest federations in the world.

On football scene, Chandigarh enters elite club of cities
With FC Barcelona, the Spanish football giant and the world’s second richest club, trying to get a foothold in Chandigarh by organising a five-day special football coaching camp at the Sector 17 Football Stadium from December 24 to 28, the question arises: is Chandigarh the new football hub of the region? The recent developments and the interest of several football clubs, most notably the La Liga champions, certainly indicate so.
