Its not only about the number of matches. The net distance traveled and hence the cost of air-fare and lodging will be drastically reduced.

They could have just kept the format the same, told us the schedule and fixtures for next season NOW, and the clubs would be able to order tickets for away games months in advance and thus have cheap fares.<div><br></div><div><br></div>
I agree the net distance is reduced to some extent. But, the point is by how much and at what cost? A proper planned league can reduce the cost as well to similar extent. It has been well discussed already.
@india_gooner It will take forever. Even, IPL Kirtket teams (benchmark in India for any marketable sport activity) does not have one
<br><div><br></div><div>Hm... what if Indian football were the first in Indian sports to do so? And I am being serious here, we could take a step ahead of everyone else for once.</div><div><br>Of course it would not be like with Dortmund where they have there very own private airline but we could have a sponsorship deal with an airline throughout the league and thus also get cheaper deals on flights.</div>
Its a big cost cutting exercise by dividing into East and West conferences. Air ticket expenses will be cut as no need to ferry teams from Goa to Calcutta, Shillong. Now Goa clubs will have to fly only to Pune. Calcutta clubs need to fly only to Bangalore and Shillong. IMG and AIFF saved some money here.<br><br><br>
Okay, back to serious me: Was flight expenses really that big of a thing to the I-League clubs? From what I knew it was the least of problems and in fact there travels have been getting better and better every season so why split it?<div><br></div><div>Also I believe this is the AIFFs way of telling the clubs "Ya... so we will not be able to get any sponsors or TV revenue so we will help you guys save some money with smaller travel."</div>

<br><br>correct me if I am wrong but this is saving money for AIFF and IMG. Flight tickets were provided by AIFF/IMG. Clubs never spent a rupee in travel. It was AIFF/IMG providing them tickets. So in this conference pattern will help AIFF saving money. Say austerity measures to reduce loss in I-league.<br>
