With this years I-League being the least spread geographically , i.e no representation from the South , and given the IMG-Reliance desire for a pan-indian League , they could have played the Fed Cup in any of then of following Cochin, Bangalore, Trivandrum , Chennai ..
Including the qualifiers, there are :
9 West Coast teams : 5 Goan teams , 3 Mumbai and Pune FC
10 Eastern teams :4 North East teams & 6 Kolkata teams
Knowing full well that HAL wouldn't get out of the qualifiers, why not have the game sin the South and show some support to the fans & state Associations who will be devoid of top flight Indian football for at least 2 years , if not a lot more.
The airports , transport & other infrastructure is far superior to what Siliguri & Ranchi/Jamshedpur can offer .
North Bengal Sports Council spent 30 lakhs to renovate this stadium for the fed cup. They have flown in horticulturists from Calcutta including the Americans who are working on the Pailan ground from grass transplantation and what not. The cool weather is just perfect for good football, hope it does not rain in which case, teams will have to take the long ball approach, thus taking away a lot from the beauty of the game.

Wow.... just wow. The stadium looks absolutely amazing. Give credit when due and it is currently due for the NBSC. Hope Prayag United like it.
