Having watched the Churchill vs Mumbai FC game, I'll have to agree 100% with Armando COlaco's views on the standards of Indian football...
The Churchill defenders were hopeless in the 1st 15minutes, not getting tight enough on ND Opara & Yakubu and allowing them space and time to turn and thread balls through.
Denzil has potential to be a regular for India at right back due to his ability to get forward , BUT his defending needs a lot of work.
Is it any wonder that 40yr olds like Yakubu can still find work in India, if you don't pressure a forward when they receive the ball & they can turn they all look world class. Both ND opara and Yakubu could swat some of those defenders off like flies when they came close, embarrassing defending by both teams.
As for Mumbai FC, where does one start... a straight ball from Center Mid and the centre backs thought Akram Mohgrabi was Moses & parted like the Red sea to expose there moronic Goalkeeper.
It's only game 3 and Khalid Jamil is using his old buddy Yadav as a right back !!
Last year he tried him as a Centre Back !! What was he doing in the off season , BUY a defender or 2. You lost Dhanachandra (sitting on Prayag's bench) get a replacement from the U-20 team. Any of those 4 lads are better than Yadav !!
Yadav and Renedy's are playing on borrowed time, and it's a sad indictment of Indian football that they still get starting positions on I-League teams due to past heroics. Have we got no-one better than these 2 grandpa's who have lost their legs ?
Agree 100% with you @gaffertape. Mumbai FC even were the second best team in the I-League U20 last season and yet none of the defenders got call-ups except a few. Only 12 goals conceded in 9 games. 7 of those against Pune FC Academy. There is quality there yet they rely on Yadav who was good at first but today was horrible.
