Come on, its easy. People overrate the North-East. There is a difference between having great football support and being good at football.
The North-East boys are the same as the rest of India. Growing up with the same shit football development. Only they had it worse in some cases with all dirt fields (Nagaland).
Think of the North-East of India like a foreigner would think of the India national football team. Indian football has good support. The Kolkata derby can get 90,000 while the Kolkata clubs can get 20,000 a game while the North-East is a goldmine for support. Same with some other parts yet we are low in the 160s rankings and not looking good at all.
Thats basically the North-East as well. A place with great support but because of a lack of proper facilities and proper coaching, should not be an area expected to dominate in Santosh Trophy play. At least not for a few years as some states there are only getting the proper facilities and coaching now.
North East is rated so high cause of the players it manages to produce despite small population, poor facilities, lack of exposure and poor finance.Just Imagine what kind of players can it produce if it had all the above things in place(excluding Pop here).
Having played with NE guys at college, district level I can say that they have raw talent.

Most of those guys were actually scouted (yes, scouted) from the BC Roy Trophy or a tournament like that when they were younger and thus had some better facilities and were able to somewhat hone their raw talent. The ones not scouted continue to play as "raw" talent and when it comes to Santosh Trophy they are no better than Bihar or Karnataka.
