WHAT A GOAL!!! Balwant Singh scores an absolute beauty. He gets the ball in the box, twists and turns, out foxes three defenders and sweetly gets it past a bewildered Shahril. That's Messi stuff!!(GOAL.COM)
Was it three or four? May be even five?Journalists could not really arrive at a consensus on the number of players Balwant Singh dodged past but there was unanimity at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda that they had witnessed a goal rarely seen.
Never mind the number of defenders he left gasping for breath; never mind the number of spectators who watched with an open mouth; never mind that the goal came in the final minute. Balwant's 90th minute strike was a sheer spectacle and remained the highlight of Churchill's 3-1 victory over Home United in a group E clash on Tuesday.
Starting on the bench, Balwant _ still recovering from an injury _ got his chance in the second session but was forced to play on the right of midfield. It wasn't until late in the game when Anthony Wolfe was withdrawn that Balwant got to play in his favoured striking position and he immediately showed why Wim Koevermans, the national coach, handed him the India shirt early this month.
Collecting a ball just beyond the half-way mark on the left, Balwant worked his way past his marker, dazzled with his footwork to beat another defender, and then with two stopper-backs policing him, shifted the ball to his right and amazingly finished the move himself.
