Americans have taken sports sponsorships to a very high level. They got Real Estate, Shipping companies, Banks, Fast Food, automobile companies all pooling in for sponsorship. Our IPL has done well.
Lets see what I-league has in future in terms of sponsorship.
Clubs like Mohun Bagan will never have any shortage of sponsors. I wish that they should sponsor Mohun Bagan-East Bengal derby match also as Kolkata Deby sponsored by some big corporation and televised at Pan-India audience. IMG-Reliance do not promote that derby game much.
Agree. Our clubs including Mohun Bagan and all goa Clubs need to get together and take control of I-league, TV Telecast, sponsors. the current set-up of IMG-Reliance is total failure.
We reached Vasco on Monday and had watched our team practice in the stadium. We met Sanjoy Ghosh, the team manager for Mohunbagan, who asked us to be at the ground at around 4.45pm on the match day. Accordingly, we waited outside the stadium and when the team bus arrived,we went in with them to the dressing room. We asked the organizers if there was any separate stand for the away fans. To our dismay, they just laughed our query off. They asked us to sit right behind our reserve bench. We informed them that we have a flag which we wished to tie and they told us to tie it near our seats itself, behind the Mohunbagan reserve bench.
As per their instructions,we tied our flag to the railing and also tied it to the window of the dressing room. Here it should be noted that none other than the organizers have access to this area. If you see the attached pic you will have a clear idea about this. After our players warmed up,they were not being able to find all the balls they were practicing with. So both of us went to help the team. Meanwhile one of the organizers untied the flag from the window and somebody pulled the flag up from the stands. As soon as we saw our flag being pulled up, we ran to stop those people but in vain. There were about 20 of them, all in Churchill organizers' red t-shirts. They took away the flag and kept abusing us from above. We told the organizers who were standing beside us,that they should at least return our flag to us. Instead of listening to us,they threatened to throw us out of the stadium.
In the meantime, seeing the choas our goalie,Arindam and team manager Sanjoy Ghosh came to our rescue. Since Arindam had played there for a long time, with his intervention, the organizers allowed us to sit down behind the reserve bench.
We opened our Mohunbagan jerseys and sat own in normal outfits. As soon as Sabeeth scored for Mohunbagan, 3-4 of those people came and sat surrounding us and kept on abusing us all the way. We watched the match till 90 mins and left as the added time was announced due to security reasons. After Churchill scored, their organizers were dancing near the sidelines. A bottle was thrown at Karim Bencharifa from the gallery which hurt him at his leg.
The Churchill people over there wanted to cover the entire stadium with small red flags for their team. Seeing our 15 ft by 6 ft flag, they were a bit too intimidated. When Alemao Churchill entered the ground at first, even he had pointed towards our flag and told something to his people.
Last time when i had visited the ground for the Sporting Club de Goa match, I had faced the same problem. So this time,I had messaged Mr.Subrata Datta beforehand to take some necessary actions , but didn't get any reply. Since this times things got even more out of our hands, I am thinking of sending an email to AIFF. If organizers cannot allow away fans to,leave alone watch the match, display their affection for their team and if away fans have to leave the ground before the match ends, for security reasons, then some strict action should be taken against such organizers as soon as possible.
