The Camp is over; it’s time for action. After 22-days of hectic camping at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi, India’s Senior National Team proceeds to play a couple of away friendly matches against Maldives and Qatar. The team reached Bangalore on 6th afternoon from where they proceed to Male on 7th morning.
The Captain of the 30-member squad hasn’t been decided as yet. Coach Armando Colaco insisted on selecting captains on a rotational basis. “For the two Friendly matches, we may have two different captains,” he informed, adding: “However, for the World Cup Qualifier, we will have the same captain for the two legs but I’m yet to decide on that.”
India play Maldives on July 10 after which they shift base to Doha for another preparatory camp. In Doha, India are scheduled to play Qatar on July 17 at the Al Sadd Stadium.
India next play UAE in the first-leg of the World Cup Qualifiers on July 23 in Abu Dhabi and then in the second-leg in New Delhi on July 28.
There was only one practice session scheduled for the day – the boys had a light practice session in the morning. A satisfied Armando wasn’t willing to go overboard over his team’s preparations. “I’m happy with the progress so far. I have certain plans and hope to execute them on the field,” he said. “The boys have adjusted to the style and are raring to go.”

Apparently some IA footballers are complaining that Colaco is trying to sign them for Dempo in National Camp itself. This came in a bengali daily so I'll take it with a pinch of salt <!-- s:| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_neutral.gif" alt=":|" title="Neutral" /><!-- s:| -->

I cant understand why these newspapers have such 'negative' mentality. Is this report published out of jealousy.

It’s a new journey for Indian football; that too under a new coach. Armando Colaco feels, “the start has been good and we need to carry on from there.” The positive sentiment within the team after the Maldives game is infectious. You are bound to get affected by it.
“We created chances,” Armando insists. “The players have adopted to my style – possessional football. We need to convert out chances. It was a match which we should have won handsomely.”
It’s hard to argue. Indeed India should have converted more from the five ‘open chances’ that they created. But Armando feels, “that’s football.”
India next play Qatar on July 17 in another International Friendly before proceeding to play UAE in Abu Dhabi in the first-leg of the World Cup Qualifier on July 23. The return-leg is slated for the Ambedkar Stadium on July 28.
Striker Sunil Chhetri, who besides captaining the side also scored for India added: “It’s nice to be back on the scoring list. We have our target fixed – the World Cup Qualifiers. But ahead of that, the Friendlies are of great help. It helps us to be a cohesive unit.”
At the moment, the Indian contingent is practicing at the Al Arabi Stadium in Doha. Doha isn’t a new destination for Team India at all as most of the boys were either a part of Asian Cup squad (in January) or India’s Pre-Olympic Qualifier against Qatar last month.
Armando who insisted on selecting captains on a rotational basis hasn’t finalised the captain for the Qatar match as yet. “I will let you know as and when I decide it,” he says.
