Maharashtra team is not at all a good side. A biased coach have selected all player from his club. 13 players of ONGC are in the team with 2 from Air India FC and other states.
The good players were not even seen at their trials for the team and were just kicked out. Maharashtra goalkeeper sucks.
Santosh Trophy is a pointless tournament from a development perspective.
Most people want to play Santosh Trophy because it gives them the cettificate that proves they represented the State at a national level tournament. ..Therefore giving them a leg up in Govt job sports quota !!
Due to this bribes and bias play a much bigger hand than talent.
As participation is more important for the certificate than results. ...Most want to lose and return ASAP.
Given the travel by 3rd class on train and poor accomodation / food and facilities. ..not to mention coaching ( similar bribes / favours etc involved in coach selection )....player's will throw games or fake performance / injury.
Scrap this tournament and replace with some genuine youth league that will help Indian football
u guys want AIFF to scrap Santosh trophy... its not req'd for states like goa, bengal, maharastra, Kerala and some NE states... but what about other states..? people from other places hardly get chance to show their talent..
We want an U23 tournament instead... or U21 and to be honest, don't blame the AIFF if other states can't get players, blame the state federations for failing to make a proper league in their state for players to come out from.
