After the qualifiers we saw the 10 qualified teams divided into two groups. The groups were as followed:
Group A: Assam, Maharashtra, Punjab, Services, West Bengal.
Group B: Delhi, Goa, Kerala, Mizoram, Railways.
So far each team should have played at least 2-3 matches in the 4 match group stage.
Group A:
- Punjab 2-0 Assam
- Services 1-0 Maharashtra
- Assam 0-1 West Bengal
- Services 0-0 Punjab
- West Bengal 2-1 Maharashtra
- Assam 0-3 Services
- West Bengal 0-0 Services
- Maharashtra vs. Assam
- Services vs. West Bengal
- Punjab vs. Maharashtra
This currently means that Services and West Bengal occupy the top 2 spots in the table and thus will qualify for the next round so far. Punjab sit in third while Maharashtra and Assam are knocked-out with 0 points.
In Group B we saw:
- Delhi 2-0 Railways
- Kerala 1-0 Goa
- Mizoram 2-0 Delhi
- Railways 1-3 Goa
- Kerala 0-1 Mizoram
- Goa 0-0 Delhi
- Mizoram 1-0 Railways
- Delhi vs. Kerala
- Goa vs. Mizoram
- Railways vs. Kerala
This means that Mizoram is on top and already qualified for the next round. Goa occupy the 2nd spot but Kerala are in third with a game in hand. Delhi and Railways are still technically in it still mathematically.
So good stuff here at the Santosh Trophy in Punjab. Raja Das of West Bengal currently is the top scorer on 3 goals.
Mizoram is becoming a Santosh Trophy Powerhouse. Probably many players from Mizoram League are playing in the team. It amazes me that why Manipur and Meghalaya fail miserably at Santosh Trophy while they give so many players to I-League.
