You never know, in a recent article about Aizawl in their match against Mohun Bagan, there was a quote from a guy broadcasting for the local network.
I don't think anyone knew about that so you never know, some of these matches could be broadcasted on some random local channel or something... doubt it but possible.
the problem isn't of selling TV rights as some of stated above..
IMG-R has to relinquish control of the rights of the I-League & 2nd Division teams ..
If a match isn't picked up by a broadcaster , say for example all the Aizawl FC games or SLFC 7 RWFC home games last year, then they should be allowed to LiveStream or sell to a local channel.
ZoNet in Mizoram had requested this , but were told , they would be allowed delayed BUT not live streaming or coverage
Having regional language channels telecast in regional dialects.languages will only help grow the game.... BUT the powers that be prefer to have celebrities to "Lets Football"
@DX The final round of i-League 2 has clubs of which have decent crowd support bar Dempo and Minerva. Neroca, Mohammedan, GHSC, Lone Star all will draw good crowds for their home matches. Assuming that its not locally marketable without even trying is just one of the problems affecting Indian football. You dont need to break the bank to advertise i-league 2 matches, you just need to be smart.
"As far as delayed stream is concerned that isnt too bad of a deal": OK, but direct telecast/ livestreaming by a local channel is of course better. Why IMG-R didn't agree to this proposal?
Kolkata TV channels were interested to do this (not only the big two's matches, even the whole I-league). They are not allowed. I-league II is having better audiences, in spite of zero marketing and awful match timings; a TV deal would have made league more lucrative.
We all know the ground reality: Indian football is sold to the devil. And it is going to it's designated place: Hell.
It stacks up really. If you market I-league 2 and make it popular then you are ignoring I-league. If you market I-league then you are taking the thunder away from the ISL. Its like nuts in a wheel that are all stuck in a position but refuse to work as a team to get the wheel running.
Agreed, but marketing of i-League 2 locally wont take away any thunder from an East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, BFC or Kerala Blasters. Lets face it, our football is run by morons.
Basically what @EastBengalPride said, our football is ran by morons. And lets be honest here, how would marketing the I-League take the thunder away from ISL? Barely anyone knows of the I-League in mainstream India but people do know of the ISL. Hell, people look at Indian football and say "Why does India only have a 3 month league?" instead of "Why do we have 2 leagues?" because they don't know of I-League.
This is just IMG-Reliance not having an interest or thinking that there money and time should be spent trying to get a television broadcaster for the I-League 2nd Division. They know that to get a good broadcaster then they would need to spend money on making the 2nd Division look like a better competition but they are already suffering from ISL so why invest more money on the 2nd Division? And they can't be bothered with the local channels.

Were there takers for this league ie., Broadcasters that IMG refused to release the rights to? If they did then i have been mistaken so far.
