Though I wouldn't approve the tone of the post, it IS the truth. Unless something is done by AIFF to change the situation, the NE clubs would keep on getting in and out of I-league. These clubs are weak compared to Division I, but they would dominate division II. So they will push in one season, only to drop out in the next.
AIFF should engage the NE clubs (and maybe all the Div II clubs) for some capacity building. But what the hell, they themselves cannot find sponsors for the league.
@Deb_Ban Its one of the poorest states in the country, Nagaland. There are major security issues, civil infrastructure is poor, economy is struggling. In such an environment a football club mostly made up of local lads would be very popular but not financially strong. You cant blame AIFF for the state and the region's economical woes. So unless they are backed by a local billionaire, they would struggle even at i-league forget the merged league. End of the day, you need money to run the show! Where your club is located plays a big role in the business of football, globally. The top clubs in the world are located in economically strong regions, e.g. Bayern Munich (Bavaria), Manchester United (Manchester), Barcelona (Catalunya), Chelsea and Arsenal (London) to name a few. If your regions economy is doing good, it brings businesses in and then you get a couple of madhat billionaires who are passionate about football.
Just look at the top clubs in the country, where they are located and who backs them financially, you will get the picture.
So in my conclusion, unless the region develops overall, a club from NE wouldnt be competitive in i-League or whatever top division we evolve into. A SLFC or a NE United may pull out one miracle season a la Leicester City but they wont be able to do it consistently. Heck, even in ISL, the club from NE is struggling to get sponsors, imagine a Neroca or AFC.
@EastBengalPride You forgot DSK Shivajians owned by Pune based real estate developer DSK Group. They are in 9th position in I League (below Aizwal FC and Shillong Lajong FC).
