“At no point in time have I acted in a manner that will bring disrepute to Chennaiyin FC or the sport of football. The allegations made against me by the FC Goa owner are completely false and baseless. I deny all such frivolous accusations. I have in no manner caused any hurt or wrongfully restrained or insulted or physically abused Mr Dattaraj Salgaocar as has been alleged by him,” Elano mentioned in his letter, as reported by The Times of India.
He stated that FC Goa players and officials were seen abusing the match officials and according to him, it was an unsportsmanlike attitude.
“I felt that such action by the players and officials of FC Goa was uncalled for and in bad taste. It completely spoilt the jubilant and celebratory atmosphere after an incredible final. It was one of the best matches I have ever been part of in my career. Since I share extremely good relations with some of the Brazilian players in FC Goa, including coach Zico, I tried to calm the situation,” he shared his version of the controversial incident which marred the second edition of the ISL final.
He went on to claim that FC Goa players and a few members of their management instead manhandled him while he was looking to instil sense by speaking to some of the Brazilian contingent of the Gaurs.
“This traumatised me completely and before I could even react, some of them held me by the neck and certain others started pushing me. I was later given to understand that the group of people who heckled and manhandled me included members of the FC Goa management and their team owner.
“At the police station, I was still stunned by the entire incident that took place at the stadium and hence was not in a position to comprehend the proceedings that took place at the police station. I was told that the police officials were trying to get access to my passport and thereby restrict my ability to go back to Brazil. However, I was in a state of shock,” he explained.
The ISL is expected to give its verdict on the “unsporting behaviour of the (Goan) franchise” next month.
Its botched up...pretty sure Goa police has been pressurised by the almighty dattaraj to give a statement. All of a sudden a "medical report" comes out of nowhere....It was pretty clearly stated long time back by Chennaiyins lawyer that Dattaraj was so busy to harass Elano that he himself rejected to undergo a medical examination,
Goa has a famous Law College named after father of Dattaraj. V M Salgaocar College of Law affiliated to Goa University. @goalkeepar ; I am asking questions on both sides.Taking Salgaocar side, Industrialists normally stay away from direct Court Cases. Their time is too precious to waste in Courts. What is his benefit in all this? Why will he do that if it is a false case?
