I think it was a good win. Remember we have had only a few days of training ahead of this clash, The majority of the players are coming after a gruelling season of two leagues. Add to this is we are coming out of a backdrop of 5 straight defeats and just the one narrow win against frikkin Guam. So we can understand the jitteryness in finishing off the game.
I for one looked at the below :
The Positives
1.) Good Intent in dominating the game, The fact Sri lanka had sat back and were generally poor in possession aided it but nevertheless the intensity was good. 2.) Sunil acting as playmaker,That a role am seeing him do for the last few months esp in NT duty. His ability to pick out a pass and holding up play makes him apt for this role, Add to that his Age catching up would mean he can grow into this role to elongate his playing career, Two assists and job well done. 3.) Changte... Very good Pace and really excited with this prospect hope there are more to come. With Udanta Jackichand , Mandar , Vineeth & Romeo We have now excellent young prospects down the wings. This Kid is now added to the list of bright young prospects.
The Alarming Alerts :
1.) The final ball is missing still, FB's are overlapping but still the crosses of quality are few and far between. 2.) Sanju is not living up to expectations at all, There were countless times where he could have run behind the defense but no always tries to cut inside and if he isnt his crosses are extremely poor, Changte with his speed was able to get behind the defense although you could argue SL were playing a little higher than before when sanju was there. 3.) The CB's are not an asset in set pieces when attacking, Most countries at our level will always depend on set play's to get a goal, However our CB's do not breed confidence at all when attacking balls. In all the corners India have won, I havent seen a single corner where they actually matter.
Btw what's this fetish on which city should host this and whats the attendence? That has nothing to do with the way the NT plays.
JEJE was very poor yesterday he can't take on Sri Lankan defenders. ......... He is a poacher will do well If he has someone like Mendoza doing half his job and will get few goals in rebound .......... is very poor even in 1on1 situation...... cant expect him to do well against Maldives nd Afghanistan
