LG IFA Shield U19 tournament 2016

The IFA Shield will be an U-19 tournament for the second consecutive with 10 teams participating.
Crystal Palace U-19 was announced as visiting team to take part in this year's tournament which is scheduled to start on Feb. 16.
The matches will be hosted outside Bengal also (Goa and Kerala).
23 match will be played to decide the winner. New sponsor LG.
East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Md Sp, United Sports, AIFF U-19, Crystal Palace, teams from Kerala, Goa to take part in IFA Shield.

At IFA Shield launch Bhaichung suggests it be international U-17 tournament next year because of the World Cup.
IFA should be called Bengal Football Association because a lot of work gets credited to Indian FA instead: Bhutia.

I would prefer the term "more productive" rather than "much better" than sait nagjee tournament. Looking at the current situation it would be hypocritical of the fans to judge about tournaments as these.

Is aiff u-19 the same team that participated in Frenz cup ?

The aim should be to spread the tournament across the state first....and inspire the kids of the state.....have 4 groups with 1 foreign side in each group and 1 Bengal side in each group....IFA's mandate is to promote football in Bengal and they should stick to it first....even if we get Thai/Indonesian/korean sides...it should be ok rather than spending amounts on getting an English side

What is so wrong about the Nagjee Trophy? Ya, there are no Indian teams but looks at the schedule... it is almost impossible. Ya, you could add Kerala Santosh Trophy side but they have Santosh Trophy qualifiers and the tournament itself. It is not a high number of games but would be close to ISL levels of match rest in between.

No one else good is available, no I-League, no India teams. You can blame the organizers for the timing of the tournament but then again, this is probably the only times these foreign teams are available.

Lets just be happy that a quality tournament is returning in a state that has been deprived of football for a long time and that they get to see some stars from Argentina, England, Germany, and Ukraine. (And Shamrock Rovers). Benefits long term are good.
