Faith? He dotes on him...He recently said (some time, during the CFL, I think) that Mehtab is an asset to any team...his dedication and commitment are exemplary...said that he is one of the few players in the Maidan who literally goes after every ball
We may laugh about Mehtab, but the fact remains that he is indeed extremely professional. During his formative years in Bagan, he was extremely committed and always played to win;his involvement level was(ans is even now) was so high and that was also one of the reasons he used to get booked regularly - which he is yet to overcome even now.
For the last few years, there have been talk of players' unity in EB team/bad dressing room atmosphere which affected their performance- but the only guy who seemed to have been absolutely gutted for EB not winning the I-League was Mehtab ,while for rest of the players it was just a routine affair.
I do agree with the points made in favour of Mehtab (except the point made by @goalkeepar above...anything can happen in a penalty-shootout and one can't call Ndoye a random African)...but it must also be said that his deployment as a defensive blocker, a role first assigned to him by Morgan, has stifled his creativity in recent years...also age has taken a toll somewhat on his style of play...while playing for East Bengal, in many matches, I have seen him just spraying the ball towards the midfield without any direction or purpose ...yes, he performed very well in the ISL this year but his performance with East Bengal in the last two years or so have been very inconsistent
