The Top 5 Exciting Youngsters to watch out in ISL Season 3
Lallianzuala Chhangte of North East United is one of the exciting players of ISL season3. File Pic
Lallianzuala Chhangte (NorthEast United) :The wonder kidmade his debut for India on 25 December 2015 against Sri Lanka when he was substituted for Robin Singh in 77th minute with India winning the match 2–0. He became 502nd player to represent the Indian national team. In December 2015, Chhangte scored 2 goals for India in their 4-1 victory over Nepal in the 2015 SAFF Championship. Chhangte represented India U19s for the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship qualification. He was scouted by DSK Shivajians’s Liverpool International Football Academy a couple of seasons back to play for their under-18 team’s debut season in the 2014-15 U-19 Hero I-League season by the Liverpool youth coaches and scouts of their academy. Chhangte finished that season as the top scorer of that league with as many as 16 goals and helped his DSK team to qualify for the final round where they finished at the 7th place. Highly impressed with his form, India U19’s coach Lee Johnson called him up to represent for the Indian National Team in the 2015 FAM-FRENZ Asia U-18 Champions Trophy season, where the Blue Tigers reached the semi finals before they lost to Japan’s Kashima Antlers in the two legged tie. Chhangte was retained by DSK Shivajians to play in the newly formatted 2015-16 Hero I-League U18, where the little genius helped his team to qualify for the final round again with 9 goals in the Maharashtra zone. Chhangte’s team finished 3rd in the final round of the plays offs as he scored 2 more goals to take his tally to 11 for the season.
In March 2016, young Chhangte along with club teammate Jerry trained at Liverpool FC’s youth academy at Kirkby after impressing all the youth coaches at DSK’s LFC academy in India. The highly talented NorthEast United forward will be a star attraction in ISL Season 3.
Avinas Ruidas of ATK deserves top five spot in ISL season3. File Pic
Avinas Ruidas (Atletico de Kolkata) : Another extremely talented youngster. The East Bengal winger was first discovered by the former East Bengal coach Armando Colaco. The left-footed sensation played a brilliant role in his first Kolkata Derby in the 2014 season of the Calcutta Football League. The youngster scored a match-winning goal against the mighty Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium. The glimpses of his mind blowing individual skills and with the ball runs impressed one and all. He got a call up in the Indian U-23 team as well.
The team-mates in his I-League club call him “Angel Di Maria” for his style of play. Di Maria is his idol as well. The youngster has got his first ISL contract this season from Atletico de Kolkata after some ineffable performances in the ongoing Calcutta Football League.
North East United player Sumit Passi has a place among the top five exciting players of ISL season3. File Pic
Sumit Passi (NorthEast United) : A brilliant talent. An ideal forward in modern day football who has speed, skill, height and great physique to trouble any opposition. The hunger for goal has already marked him as a menacing force in Indian football. The youngster has already made his debut for India under coach Stephen Constantine a few months back. The Punjabi lad played extremely well against Laos in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup Qualifier and scored a goal as well to help India to clinch a 6-1 victory as well.
The energetic Sporting Clube De Goa forward had a brilliant season in 2015-16. The contract with NorthEast United in ISL Season 3 will certainly give him a wonderful opportunity to showcase his talent.
Bidyananda Singh is also an exciting player from ATK. File Pic
Bidyananda Singh Ningthoujam (Atletico de Kolkata) : One of the most promising young defensive midfielders of India U-20 Bidyananda Singh Ningthoujam will undoubtedly be a star attraction in the ISL Season 3. The Manipuri lad is already coined as Indian “Keisuke Honda” by Barcelona coaches during the training camp at aspire academy in Doha.
Young Bidyananda became one of only two Indian players to play in the Aspire Academy’s All Star Team. He had a dream debut by scoring the opening goal of a 3-1 win over the mighty Dutch side, AFC Ajax as well.
The fact that the Indian youngster took up a place in the All Star Team in favour of a Japanese player was an incredibly ironic coincidence. The trial ended very well for Bidyananda, as he was awarded the player of the camp by Barcelona coaches. His stint for Atletico de Kolkata is surely going to be a star attraction.
David Lalrinmuana of Mumbai City FC. File Pic
David Lalrinmuana (Mumbai City FC) : The diminutive central midfielder was undoubtedly the star for Aizwal FC in the last I-League. The Mohun Bagan Academy product is known for his instinctive quality of controlling the midfield. A magnificent ball player. The 23 years old Mizoram midfielder will make lives difficult for a lot of teams.
The ISL Season 3 could turn out to be a brilliant opportunity for this highly talented midfielder as he will get the “terrific trio” of Diego Forlan-Sunil Chettri-Sony Norde on the upfront to showcase his talent once more. The quality he carries could gift Mumbai City FC the asset they wanted in the central midfield.
Sumit passi is just an average player. No big deal . And David lalrinmuana is just 23? Maybe someone on IFN should do a top 30 young players 2016 . It'd be interesing. Everyone can share their inputs too.
We should introduce high quality Health , Fitness and Nutrition sections/departments in every club . Most of Our Footballers look malnourished . Likes of Romeo Franandes are too thin . I saw Neymar before joining Barcelona . Now at Barcelona his physique is much better .
I still have ambitions to play for India: Michael Chopra

NEW DELHI: Former Newcastle and Sunderland striker Michael Chopra says he has not given up on his ambition to represent India in international football.
Chopra said in the past he is willing to surrender his British passport to represent India. The striker has represented England at the junior level but according to FIFA rules, he is eligible to represent India since his grandparents moved to England from Jalandhar in the 1950s.
"I do still have ambitions to play for India and in fact I am in the process of doing so now. I am speaking to lawyers about the right steps to take, it's just taking longer than I first thought," he said.
The first British Asian to play in the high-powered world of English Premier League was the top pick during the international draft for Kerala Blasters in the inaugural season of ISL in 2014, but somehow could not live up to the expectations.
An injury did not help his case and even though he fought his way back into the squad for the final clash against Atletico de Kolkata, there was no happy ending.
In the following season for 2015, Chopra was not considered by either Kerala Blasters or any of the seven clubs in ISL. But now that Kerala Blasters have recalled him and he has proved his fitness in last three weeks of intense training at Pune, Chopra would want to make the best of the lifeline that has been provided to him by the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned franchise.
"I think there were a few things that went wrong; I underestimated the ISL. I thought it was going to be easier than it was, and then I picked up a hamstring injury in pre-season which set me back.
"When I was due to play against Atletico de Kolkata, I picked up a really bad ankle injury that should have kept me out of the ISL, but I was determined to try and play my part in the semifinals and final. I played through pain. It still haunts me to this day how the Kolkata goalkeeper made that save in the last five minutes," said Chopra.
Chopra has learnt lessons from his past endeavours in the ISL and is now determined to set the wrongs right.
"This year I have approached things differently. I know what to expect and I have made sure I am going to be fit this season. I have been training with DSK for three weeks before I met up with Kerala Blasters and I would like to thank Shirish and Dave for giving me the opportunity to do so," said Chopra.
