@Nagendra To compensate for the matches lost, fed cup wouldn't be enough...that's why AIFF planned to relaunch the Durand Cup! Now it all makes sense!!!:D
Also , 3-match system will be too expensive...... He might even promote 2-3 teams from 2nd div. Ozone won't join I league because, they aren't even in the 2nd div... right now they are playing in the BDFA super division...
Asia's oldest football tournament is about to set a comeback later this year.
We are talking about prestigious Durand Cup which will be held this year after a gap of one year.
Minerva Academy Football & cricket club,Neroca FC,Lone Star FC Kashmir and Gangtok Himalayan SC SIkkim have been selected from the second division due to their exceptional performance in the second division I-League adding feather to their achievements on the football pitch.
Teams like Aizawl FC,DSK Shivajians, Sporting Clube de Goa & Dempo Sports Club will be seen in action along with four teams from the I-League.
The twelve teams will be split into two groups of six and will play each other on a round robin basis, with the top two in each group making it to the semis.
The tournament will kick start from 29th of August in Delhi.
AIFF may not own the Durand Cup, but they were instrumental in scrapping it last year... So , now they are giving it permission to run.
