This fog problem starts right after Diwali night every year here in Delhi. Crop burning happens more in further northern states-- no problem of smogbin their cities. I was suffocating on the night of Diwali and so were many of my friends who have shunned firecrackers since long time. Right after Diwali, NO and SO2 levels shot up 10-15 times. The crop burning mainly creates CO2, PM and soot problems. These are mostly driven further north up the Himalayas causing reduced albedonand hence global warming. That is another problem.
This smog issue in Delhi starts with Diwali, let us not doubt that. And also it is fellow illiterate but rich Delhiwalas who have no idea of sustainability or green shit are to be blamed.
People in Lahore, Pakistan do not celebrate Diwali, yet they are hit by smog. It is because smog in Delhi and Lahore is caused by the same factor- crop stubble burning by farmers between the two agriculture cycles- North Pakistan Punjab area and Punjab Haryana of India. Diwali comes around the same time as the gap between two agricultural
cycles occur and farmer burn the straw in farms-so blame diverted here.
The effect of Diwali firecrackers will not last even 12 hours and surely
it is not the reason why sog engulfs Delhi or Lahore. Diwali is of very very little significance as far as air quality of Delhi is concerned. Burning of fields create enormous smoke- one should take a train between Delhi to Amritsar in this time-period. Diwali firecrackers is nothing in comparison. What was level of Nitrogen and Sulphur oxides 48 hours after Diwali ?
I am witnessing smog in Delhi for years, this ludicrous theory of blaming Diwali Firecrackers is new this time. This reminds me of mass hysteria of being attacked by Monkey Man in Delhi in about 2001 or that miracle of Ganesh Ji statue drinking milk in 1995. Same way, this year everybody was suffocating in Diwali.
Smog is there in Delhi - ISL has only one North indian city as venue which has proximity to those agricultural states. My post was concerned with linking of Diwali Firecrackers and smog.
People in India come up with bullshit theory's every pollution in diwali is blamed on busting firecrackers and some people want to ban pyro for this while know one blames millions of tons of harmful gases released by industry's and automobiles.
This is bullshit theory. Danger with today's world is this tendency to believe in social media news. Things trend in 2 hours without anyone bothering to look in facts.
