The much talked about merger of the Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League may not happen next year, Praful Patel, president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) told HT.
@ArsenalFan700 ... So at long long last you have admitted that ISL stadium attendance figures are fudged. Thank God. After weeks of telling, after weeks of proof and after weeks of talking to the people who actually work in the ISL and at stadiums, you have finally admitted the truth.
Another piece of news from an inside source in FC Goa. It appears that there has been a massive "fight" between Lucio and Zico. Lucio might not play another match this season. It all started due to the various problems that the FC Goa players had to deal with at the start of the season.
The pre season was badly organised, the ground at Zico's academy was apparently worse than some of the grounds in Goa. Then players were ill treated in Brazil and were made to pay for essentials like water and ice from their own pockets by the team manager Gavin Araujo. Two high ranking officials were asked to leave just before the start of the ISL by the new management. So the pre- season was a disaster, players were injured, then the Subhasish Roy Chowdhury goof up happened where they tried to send a fake injury certificate to ISL and try and get him replaced only for the ISL doctors to dismiss the fraudulent certificate. Injured players like Denzil Franco, Robin Singh, Sahil Tavora who hadn't played in months were signed. A goof up by the FC Goa CEO meant that FC Goa ended up with a player less compared to other ISL franchises.
And then when the team came to Goa, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. A Deltin hotel that wasn't approved by the League was chosen to accommodate Champions League and world Cup winners. The accommodation apparently didn't even have a gym and a swimming pool. The place being by the river, accumulated a lot of waste from the surroundings, making it a sore sight. There wasn't a proper training ground for the team in Goa forcing Zico to cancel two scheduled friendlies before the first match. Deltin being owners and operators of two huge casinos- considered by many as an anti social hazard in Goa, didn't help the cause either. The logistics were a mess. At one away trip the players apparently had no clue about the flight timings and the bus that was arranged from the airport to the hotel for one of the away matches had no enough seats forcing many players to go standing.
What killed it finally was this. The players led by Lucio had series of meetings with the management to try and shift the players into better hotels however the management did not budge and stuck to their guns. It is believed that this new hotel was shown to Zico prior to the players being accommodated here and I'm told that Zico agreed to the hotel. This enraged some "senior" players as they felt that Zico looked after his own interests and not of the players (Zico stayed in a different hotel, a seven star property as he has done over the last three years). The final nail in the coffin though was the decision of the management to shift the other Brazilian staff, who were staying at another Deltin Resort (which was better than the one that the players were staying) after Zico's intervention. Some of the "senior" players felt that Zico intervened for the other Brazilian staff and not the players. This has rubbed Lucio the wrong way and he apparently stormed out of a training session last week.
Then came the stadium fiasco which has been mismanaged since the start of the ISL after one high ranking official and another staff who dealt with stadium operations last season left the club. The match on the 8th of OCtober had no permission from the police or the collector due to the BRICS summit but it still went on after Nita Ambani spoke to Narendra Modi and sorted out the security concern by bringing security from Mumbai. The second fiasco happened on the 30th October match due to the failure of the FC Goa management to clear the stadium bills.
Sponsorships too have been at an all time low for FC Goa this season.
Having said this I still believe that FC Goa would reach the semi finals. I may be wrong but this whole League looks like a total set up. Nita Ambani needs to repay the favour done by Mody.
@lokeshchandaindia Ya, like Deb_Ban said, that was sarcasm. Also, why would they fudge an attendance of 15,000 for Delhi? That really makes no sense at all.
This ISL season sucks big time . Kerala , Goa and Pune matches are so embarrassing . Guys like Belfort who are current National footballers , can't kick the ball properly . Delhi , Mumbai , ATK , North East and Chennai have been average with few bright moments here and there .
I have lost my appetite . WIth the news of no merger next season , how are they planning to host Both ISL and I league from Nov-May deadline . AIFF sucks big time . They said 3 tier structure from next year and now PP says , it looks unlikely .
DAMMIT ! Fuck Indian Football . Now I Know how Indian Football Fans have felt all these years .
