AMBELIM: Guardian Angel SC defeated Churchill
Brothers SC 1-0 in the Goa Pro League encounter, at
Ambelim ground, on Wednesday.
Guardian Angel SC had defeated the Red Machines 2-1
in their previous encounter.
Both the teams dominated the opening minutes of the
match. Guardian Angel’s Yakubu Mohammed missed a
chance to give his team the lead but Churchill’s Biju
Kumar thwarted the danger.
In the 5th minute, Churchill Bros Samson Fernandes ran
down the left flank before dribbling past couple of rival
defenders but the lad’s goal bound effort was timely
blocked by Guardian Angel’s Sanwil D’Costa.
Semson Fernandes and Chesterpaul Lyngdoh played
well on the upfront for Churchill Brothers. At the other
end, Yakubu Mohammed and Snedden Rodrigues
created upfront moves for Curchorem tem,while both
goalkeepers of both teams were good under their bar.
Semson had another opportunity to score but his
header sailed over the bar off Stephen Colaco’s cross.
In the 10th minute, Guardian Angel were awarded a
penalty when Churchill Brothers Chesterpaul Lyngdoh
brought down Yakubu in the box. Yakubu stepped over
and coolly converted the spot kick in the 15th minute.
Down by the goal, Churchill Bros pressed hard and
almost scored in the very next minute but Chesterpaul’s
solo effort was thwarted by rival defender Perryson
Rebello.
In the 43rd minute, Churchill Bros Basant Rai’s long
range effort was way off target.
In the second half, Churchill Brothers tried to find the
equaliser in the 47th minute through Semson
Fernandes but the lad shot wide.
At the other end, Guardian Angel’s Perryson Rebello
and Anthony Pereira foxy move was foiled by Zenith G
Mashangva of Churchill.
Churcholl pressed hard in search of the equaliser but
they simply couldn’t find the mark.
Mohammed Yakubu was one of top scorer in Ghanian league and he has previously played for South African side Maritzburg ,AS Djerba of Tunisia and Raja Casablanca of Morocco. currently playing in GPL for guardian Angel.
Sporting Clube de Goa beat Corps of Signals 2-0 in the Goa Pro league today with goals from Cajetan Fernades and Francis Dadzie. They go 5 points clear on the top of the table.
Churchill Brothers Sports Club edged past Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao as they registered a hard fought 1-0 win
Churchill Coach Alfred was not happy with team performance and expressed his unhappiness by saying “I am not happy. We were lucky to get three points. At present we are not performing well. We need to improve.”

Vasco Sports Club came from a goal down to hold Calangute Association as they registered a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League
This draw made no difference to Calangute’s standing in the league table as they remain in 5th place with 19 points from 11 matches. While Vasco have 9 points from 11 matches and stands 8th in the league table.
