With just two games in hand to safeguard themselves from relegation, Mumbai FC has let go of Brazilian players Anderson Raimundo and Alex Willian...
Cemented at the last spot on the points table this season, Mumbai FC have had the worst run of results since their entry in India's top-flight league. The metropolis club has 12 points in its kitty and just two games in hand to maintain their spot in the league.
Amidst the relegation contest, the club has released two of its Brazilian attackers namely Anderson Raimundo da Silva and Alex Willian Silva. Striker Anderson announced the departure of the foreign duo as he left a goodbye message for the supporters of the Yellows and Blues.
It was former gaffer Santosh Kashyap who had sealed the deal for the Brazilians in the month of February. 30-year-old Anderson Raimundo featured in eight games for the Mumbaikars having found the net once. The attacking player delievered his best performance for Mumbai FC in their latest encounter with Chennai City on 16th April which ended in a goalless draw. As for Alex, the midfielder was often involved in the build-up for the Mumbaikars but his lack of match fitness saw him make only six appearances for the Essel Group-owned outfit.
With two foreigners having left the country, the Yellows and Blues now only have the services of Densill Theobald and Djelaludin Sharityar in the overseas player quota. Trinidadian Densill has failed to create enough impact in the squad while Sharityar on the other hand, has been a formidable addition in the defensive forces of the club, apart from his recent rib injury which understandably affected his performance.
The exit of Anderson and Silva would mean youngster Hitesh Sharma could be picked by new boss Oscar Bruzon in the midfield whereas Victorino Fernandes or Karan Sawhney could be continued to operate up-front in the striker's role.
The Maharashtra outfit will take on Thangboi Singto's young Shillong Lajong side on Sunday evening at Cooperage Football Ground in their penultimate fixture of the season.
