JAMSHEDPUR'S JRD SPORTS COMPLEX TO GET MAKEOVER: RS40 CR EARMARKED
With Tata Steel bagging franchise of Jamshedpur Indian Super League (ISL), JRD Tata Sports Complex is gearing up for a makeover with world-class facilities.
Tata Steel won the Jamshedpur franchise in the upcoming season of the coveted ISL. The company won the bid with Jamshedpur as the host city and part of ISL. As per the information the city will host nine matches at the sports complex in Bistupur. The matches are expected to be held from second week of November.Sources informed that Rs 40-crore has been earmarked for renovation plan for the stadium. The company is planning to replace its ground with Bermuda grass, to provide ease to play for players.
“ It is a major occasion for us and we want to take the city to a new height on the football map. The entire infrastructure will witness a sea change. The renovation of dressing rooms has started today and we are confident that the venue would be ready by the end of October,” noted an official of the company.As per the renovation plan apart from rest rooms, dressing rooms, galleries, media box, dining rooms, will get a facelift. Moreover, there will be a dedicated zone for cheer leaders too.
“ Every detail of the stadium is being workout. We want to ensure world class facilities here. New separate new dressing rooms will be equipped with air-conditioners, LED TV, refrigerators, rest rooms and many more. ISL is known to attract host of celebrities and world class players so we want to showcase the best of the steel city to the visitors,” noted the official.
The stadium has a capacity of 30,000 with greens, measuring 102m by 67m. As per the plans the flood lights will also go hi-tech with high visibility.
With host of celebrities coming for the matches, plans have been made for airconditioned zones for VVIPs and VIPs with facilities like sofa sets, LED’s and refrigerators . The entire stadium will turn into wi-fi zone too.After bagging the franchise, Sunil Bhaskaran, vice president corporate services, Tata Steel, had said, “a pioneer in the development of sports in the country, especially football. Our entry into the coveted Indian Super League reinforces our commitment to providing a fillip to the development of football in the country. We are extremely excited to have won the bid for our hometown Jamshedpur and will provide the best facilities for football to prosper in the eastern part of our country.”
Set up in 1991, the JRD Tata Sports Complex Stadium is the largest sports arena in Jamshedpur. As a multi-use stadium, has an international size football pitch with an eight-lane mono-synthetic running track around the field.
