This flawed concept is a non-starter in Asia, Africa, North America.
We have a long list of political disputes. Saudi Arabia will not play in Iran and vice-versa. Same with Qatar. Syria, Jordan, lebanon all have a list of countries where they will not go and play. India will not go to Pakistan. No country will host Myanmar. AFC cup is ruined with half of the matches being played in neutral countries.
African countries work around big clubs where most of their stars play. They struggle to get their foreign based players unless it is Arica Cup of Nations or WCQ.
Mexico has their own lucrative deal of playing friendlies in USA in front of their adoring high ticket price paying fans. They have zero desire to break it and play home and away matches.
Just because somebody is not saying No to the journalist, like Dato Windsor in the above link, does not mean that it is going to happen. AFC will see it as a good concept, will study the idea for future.
New look Spain was awesome in defeating Croatia 6-0. Gone is the time of tiki-taka or thousand passes. Gone are the players like Iniesta, Silva, Pique, Alba, Koke.
Young players like Saúl, Asensio, Dani Ceballos, José Luis Gayà, Rodri and Isco all impressed. Spain was direct, precise and even used Long Ball !!!
Luis Enrique model is going to give great dividends in future.
There were five absences from the Spain side knocked out by Russia – David Silva, Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué all announced their international retirement while Jordi Alba and Koke were left out of the squad – and only three World Cup winners left. But there is talent there, a new generation. By the end Saúl, Asensio, Dani Ceballos, José Luis Gayà and Rodri had all played and impressed. All are 23 or under.
