@namewtheld Indonesia was suspended by FIFA for almost an year due to ISL (hilariously Indonesian Super League) and govt interference. Then Indonesia could not participate in world cup / Asian Cup qualifying cycle of previous championship. That has hit the game hard in that country.
The chronology:
February 18, 2015
Football
association of Indonesia (PSSI) informed FIFA that Indonesian Super
League (ISL) would be cancelled because there was an organizer (BOPI)
that violated FIFA’s statutes.
April 4, 2015
ISL
continued to operate but finally stopped (April 12) after BOPI issued a
warning statement to PSSI. BOPI believed that PSSI registered 2 clubs
(Persebaya and Arema) that, according to BOPI, were not recommended to
compete (IMO caused by bribing).
April 18, 2015
La Nyalla Matalliti was elected to be the President of PSSI by PSSI’s congress. (His background was not very good)
April 22, 2015
Indonesian State Minister of Youth and Sports froze PSSI.
May 4, 2015
FIFA gave a deadline (May 29, 2015) in order for PSSI to clear up any problems they have.
May 22, 2015
FIFA reminded the Ministry of Youth and Sports about the deadline.
May 30, 2015
The suspension started.
The suspension will be removed with 4 following conditions:
PSSI Executive committee is able to manage PSSI independently without any third party, including the ministry.
The responsibility of Indonesian National Team is returned to PSSI.
The responsibility of any competitions is returned to PSSI.
Every football club that has been approved by PSSI is allowed to compete in PSSI competition.
Ban was lifted in May 2016
Earlier there was one FIFA ban of Indonesia in 2012 and as @giridharan mentioned - Corona has disrupted the Domestic season yet again.
It is not Stimac's prerogative to play friendlies.
FSDL doesn't want us to play friendlies. AIFF happily concurs as this allows them to do nothing and relax. Any new coach will have to do without friendlies and not watch I-League. So result would be the same. No point changing coach.
And we can forget about the crap genetics theories. Look at Vietnam (and Japan before them). They just focused on the basics and improved the system. There is no other way. No Klopp or Southgate can win you medals unless you build a strong system in place.
Start with a 16 team, multi-level league and youth academies.
Domestic season should be made more competitive. Have Relegation / Promotion in the League Introduce Cup Tournament Reduce average age of foreign players - no more semi retired 30 plus foreigners whose best was years ago Have games on weekends so that enough time is given to players for training, improving Play regularly Home and away on FIFA international breaks
Indian Football will not improve till we such structural changes. Otherwise it will be a struggle to qualify for AFC Asian Cup . In this Round we managed only 1 win out of 8. In third round we will need atleast 3 or 4 wins to qualify
I think 30 is a bit harsh don't you think I mean there are so many players who play at a high level and still give that experience to our younger players.
In my opinion, in football you should have a right blend of youth and experience to improve. But I completely agree on the retired comeback. Unrelated note, @munna219777 did you check Robben back from retirement and bossing in Groningen. Wish ISL signed such players, He is a huge influence in their side. Everybody looks upto him and he doesn't fail. Wish ISL could scout proper old players who are motivated and committed to the project.
If a league is competitive one with 7 or 8 month long duration and proper pre season, cup tournament, regular and rigorous training - those who are semi retired 30 35 plus on poor fitness side will not come. They left Europe because their bodies cant cope with it.
In a 4 month league ISL with 20 odd games they will still come.
At any time on the ground you will have 6-7 such footballers either playing with or against !!
This will have an impact on the level of game.
Fitter stronger 30 plus ones will come - no issues with that.
Proper gap between two games is required.
A typical example I am giving in Professional club setup
If matches are played on weekends, rest on day 2 and day 6, 4 to 5 hour training on rest of the days, In
these 3–4 hours, they first run 25–30 mins for cardio, some short
period intense sprinting drills, football tactical drills to improve
understanding with teammates and some gym exercises for muscle
development and strength.
Pre season is gruelling to gain match fitness.
Then Promotion Relegation and Cup tournaments besides League prepare players for all types of scenarios. Depending on situation - more sprint training or more rest to key players or setpiece or must win situation !!!
In a 4 month ISL - are they preparing players in that level of competitiveness with daily 1 game ?
The answer is No and that reflects on poor performance of National Team.
True the problem is itself comes down to the league.
1. Improper scouting of marquee players.( Some of it was right like Elano, Lucio they gave their all in terms of experience and physically) They need to have the right people in who wanted to carry the team as leaders and also be fit.
2. We definitely need to increase the teams and conduct games on weekends with occasional cup games in between.
3. Coaches like Lobera, Khalid and Juan if given time can def improve our players. ISL does not give any chance for coaches to do that. Khalid is a different coach from his I-League days to the ISL. Sort of more dodgy. No coach can take his philosophy, set piece training and drills without time.
4. We used to have proper pre-season abroad in ISL atleast in the first 3 seasons. Now even pre-season is not effective in the last 3 seasons.
