“It will be a very interesting game. We have something to offer now and it’s not about kick and chase. It’s about a different approach. I appreciate (what) Constantine (did), because he didn’t have an option. That was the only way he could play. We play Football with the players we have."
It was crass of Stimac to criticize Constantine. Contrary to prevailing narrative, Consti in fact improved NT's passing play, made tge team more compact and gave it a certain philosophy (counter attacking) with which the team shaped itself. And talking of players that Stimac is using, it was Consti who brought in Ashique, Thapa, Changte, Udanta, Jhingan, kotal, Nishu kumar, Narendra etc into the NT, which now form the core of Stimac's team. Consti's only folly was not selecting enough deserving players and persisting with a select group of players and tactic. But then why to mend something which ain't broken, and it was working for India. Stimac got lucky to have stumbled upon a gem like Sahal and he gave chances to players like amarjit and Brandon. But still Stimac should not criticize his predecessor.
I don't think Stimac is actually criticizing Constantine here. Rather he accepts that Consta's tactics was right because he could not do better with the players he had at his disposal. He also appreciates the fact that “For years, Constantine was working with a certain group of players and built confidence between them." I did not find anything crass about it.
Talking about criticism, I think everybody has a right to criticize another person, provided his criticism is fair, based on facts and does not degenerate into abuse and name-calling. If Stimac or any other person feels that there was something wrong with Consti's style of play, he has every right to say so in decent language. In that case, he himself should also be brave enough to face criticism for his own mistakes
Stimac should be fired if we loose against Qatar and Oman at home. So far apart from individual brilliance of some players apart, his strategy, organization has been at the level of CFL. He has chosen a squad of unfit players who barely play football all year and then decided to skip international friendlies.
