@goalkeepar Spanish players of MB are average, See CCFC and BFC who won the two leagues with mainly Spanish players. Goa Super Cup win was also due to Spaniards
Anthony Wolfe( 2006 world cupper) Ansu kromah and varni kallon (both played in top division of country with FIFA rank above 120 for two-three seasons). These players are not random Africans. Varni kallon played for his national team(Liberia) he won the best defender award in I-League.
IMO there are some off-track discussions here. It is true that African players, random or not, have survived admirably in the muddy, slushy grounds of the Maidan. But the Spanish players in the Big Two have just started out in the CFL (Borja, Colado and Dovale were not there in last year's CFL). Let's wait for the season to end before we pass a final verdict on the Spanish players. @DEFENCE123 : The Spanish players of CCFC and BFC did not play in the CFL where adjusting to the ground conditions is a different ball game altogether.
Coming to today's match, MB's loss was not solely due to the failure of the Spanish players. True Chamorro missed a sitter and a penalty and Beitia was not his usual self. But the defenders and of course, Shilton put up an abysmal performance. Credit must also be given to the Peerless players and of course their coach, the veteran Jahar Das. Remember that even legendary coaches like P.K. Banerjee had admitted that winning against the so-called weaker teams, whose strategy was to adopt a ten-man defence and deny the opposition any space, in the CFL was a herculean task. Vicuna has just begun his journey, hope he and his players learn their lessons and deliver the right results.
Three goals are unacceptable. A little careful planning by Jahar Das and having some okay players crumbled MB. Also, playing in a smaller ground helped Peerless when defending. MB Midfield was ineffective and defence was totally absent. MB team had no imagination and against a resolute defence, they were clueless. This team will not go far.
