What if Coyle had nothing to do with it? Chennai had really good attacking foreigners who didn't fire in initial games because they were playing in India for the first time. After the first few games they settled in and started scoring goals and the Indians also stepped up including Edwin who struggled initially, then Thapa,Changte etc
@Ronny You are right maybe that settling in time worked good for players. Thapa who was tired after international fixtures is probably rejuvenated now.
What I would praise Coyle is he has his tactics spot on right. Even the big games, Edwin dropped deep in Big games, Allowing Thapa to be more influential in the game. Also Rafael and Chhangte are used wisely. He was not just a sole Winger as before, Chhangte has stepped up to be at the end of supply. When teams mark Rafael, Chhangte combines well with Thapa and Rafael to be in scoring positions. To my surprise even though he did a lot of mistakes he saved 3 games out of the last 12 by scoring in crucial games. Overall the defence improved because the whole team pull their strings together, which to me the previous team under John failed to do consistently for a whole season. And there are many many tiny details in set pieces that have resulted in them winning games. As a whole i would say both ofthe manager and the players deservedly are doing an excellent job now.
