I think its its about Udanta's confidence than his technical ability to take shots. He has missed a few, he has read criticism from fans regarding his poor technical skills and shooting ability and over time it has dented his confidence, so much so that now days he prefers to pass rather than take a shot even while being in a favourable position to do so. Its a phase in every player's life and they get over it.
Wingers should also look to score in the modern game. Udanta belongs to a previous ideology where wingers are just expected to cross into the box. Soosairaj, Changgte, Rahul KP all look to score and Indian team doesn't need a winger who can't score goals.
@EastBengalPride umm highest assists are not a joke. He might not be a lethal goal scotery but he does have stats on his side. Laughing at comment which said skied, which is factually incorrect.
Coaches like Antonio Lopez Habas are a curse on Indian football. He has tweaked the system to play an Indian defence and a foreign attack.
Indians no matter what their actual position is, he'll only play them in the defence or on the wings. I feel sorry for the likes of Soosairaj and Joby Justin.

This was the case ever since he debuted. Both for India and for BFC his goalscoring record is bad.
