now this shows why Dempo are champions and MB are losers...In Bengal, its called 'Cut money', and players pay that to the MB players recruiters, which basically are the officials and their gang...see the difference atleast in Dempo they used to give it to the coach who understands football :P

Well put @rudra ..this system is rife in Indian football, one of the main reasons why salaries in Kolkata have risen so ridiculously...

In the regular Indian club system , the players pays the coach or coach and managers,..... read Dempo, Air India (Bhimal Ghosh), ONGC, HAL and almost all PSU teams.
In the bigger Kolkata clubs, the "board" members, officials etc as mentioned above are GROUPS, so their cut has to be greater for them to get their share...hence inflate the wages , so they get the same cut as their counterparts at other clubs.

It's not just a football problem, its an institutional issue with Govt jobs and just the way things function....
even at the "clean clubs" like Salgaocar , Pune FC etc. players will recommend players to the coach/management and if the trial is successful, they will probbaly get a kick back from that player.

The Indian football scene has no real scouts & one of the reason most clubs are against using agents like Libero, is that they are eating into what has been the best job in Indian football.... a club leach !

agreed players recommending players is fine...

but here players will push for certain players with officials behind the coaches back... & these players are then brought in on inflated wages too

For all those who found this surprising, there was news that even Karim did such thing when he signed those shitty foreigners this year. Maybe gaffer can confirm.

@silicon. This is not confined to Dempo itself. Its been going on in Bengal for a long time but in another way. As long as things are running smoothly its all fine, but once the tide turns all hell breaks loose. The problem was that Baba Dempo has too much confidence in Colaco.

The only club where this surely does not happen is Churchill Bros as Alemao himself calls players to his house to settle financial matters. No middleman involved in money matters.

    i'll disagree at Churchill Bros.
Although you are right that all the signings & cash transactions take place at the Varca headquarters....but Subhas Bhowmicks son is working closely with the agent to bring players like Bilal, Akram....

As far as I know with regards to Karim,, its all just rumor..when things go bad , everyone blames/accuses the coach.

Karim openly admitted to a gamble on Hamza and hence only signed him for 6 months with the option to release before Fed Cup
Angel & Sean Rooney were very impressive in trials & pre-season, a combination of things led to their downward spiral....
lets not forget it takes time to adjust to Indian conditions & football....
I remember how Arsenal & other football fans in UK were unimpressed with Dennis Bergkamp for his 1st 7 games in Premier League and the rest as they say is history.... closer to home Odafa was released by 2-3 clubs and went to Bangladesh to re-vamp his career.
Quinten Jacobs was a great signing, and all of us who followed 2nd Division for last 3 years & were at Siliguri/Sikkim last year saw a class player...he was used wrongly as a support striker by Salgaocar.
