Papas, who is highly passionate about the Dempo assignment, even arranged for a dinner with the players later in the evening.<br>“I am dying to get on to the field with Dempo players,” said Papas, disclosing that getting Dempo back to the No 1 spot would be his prime motto as the former I-League champions enter a new season under the Australian.<br>From Monday, the Dempo players will hit the field as Rafael Napoli, who has come along with Papas, will oversee the fitness and conditioning camp. Napoli is Dempo’s new fitness and conditioning coach and will add a new edge to the team’s preparations which will now work on a scientific model, a facet that has been much appreciated by Shrinivas Dempo.<br>Along with Papas and the rest of the coaching staff, Dempo’s preparations for the new season are bound to get a head start as they venture out to reset the benchmark and regain that air of invincibility that was once Dempo’s forte in the I-League as far as winning titles was concerned. “I want to take Dempo to a new level,” asserted Papas in his remark, Saturday.<br>If one may recall, Dempo Sports Club had formally signed Arthur Papas as their coach for the next three years earlier in May.<br>The Australia-born Papas, who was shortlisted for the “Coach of the Year” award by the Football Players Association of India, had guided the Indian National Under-22 team to an impressive AFC U-22 qualifiers campaign in Oman.<br>He comes to Dempo after having successfully coached Kolkata-based ‘Pailan Arrows’.<br>Papas is highly regarded for his tactical acumen and the fact that he is just 33 defies his grand achievements in football.<br>Papas will take over from Armando Colaco who left the club after a 13-year stint in which he won the I-League for a record five times and also guided the team to the semi-finals of AFC Cup in 2008.<br>On his appointment then, Papas had said he was excited by the opportunity that has come his way and the challenges that will come by coaching one of the most successful teams in the I-League.<br>Papas has also served the Australian Institute of Sport, Oakleigh Cannons FC and Newcastle Jets in the Australian ‘A-League’ before joining the Indian U-22 national football team as head coach.<br>He is also credited with the impressive performance of the ‘Oakleigh Cannons’ in 2011 which saw him become the youngest ever to earn the “Coach of the Year” award by the Football Federation Victoria.<br>On his appointment, Director of Dempo Sports Club Shrinivas Dempo had said: “We are convinced by his (Papas) work, in that we have seen the progress of the teams under him and the kind of motivation that he has infused among the players of the India U-22 and Pailan Arrows.”<br>As earlier announced, Papas is right here in Goa, to take over the reins of Dempo SC from the first week of July.<br> </p></div><div><br></div>
