Committee in its meeting has
decided to increase the number
of teams in the Kingfisher Pro-
League from 8 to 10 for the
2011-12 season, and also to play
the league in a new format.
It was also decided to write to
AIFF to reconsider their decision
and to allow players registered
in the I-League to play a total of
45 matches in the coming
season. The committee has
accepted the recommendations
from the Referees Committee
and it was decided to hold three
fitness tests for referees. The 1st
one will be on July 17 at 3MTR
Navelim while the next two will
be conducted in November 2011
and February 2012.
The committee further accepted
the recommendation made by
Women’s Committee to exclude
Women’s Competitions from the
Official Competitions of the Goa
Football Association. This was
done to encourage participation
of schools, higher secondary
schools and colleges in Women’s
Competitions, states the press
release issued by GFA, on Friday.
Regulations for participation of
football teams in outstation
tournaments were also
approved. The Executive
Committee has further decided
that the Youth Development
Committee will meet and discuss
the expansion of the GFA Youth
Development Programme and to
prepare a detailed plan for
development of grassroots
football.
introduction of who Vishwas
Gaonkar is. The affable, happy-
go-lucky coach from Calangute,
who shaped careers of many an
aspiring footballers at Sesa
Academy and went on to earn
the respect of his wards, is now
in charge of Calangute
Association and will coach them
in the new season.
With Calangute Association (CA)
being promoted to play in the
ensuing GFA Professional League
from north Goa, Vishwas has
been entrusted with the
responsibility of coaching the
club.
"It’s a challenge for me and I
have accepted it with both
hands," thundered Vishwas
while speaking to The Navhind
Times on Monday.
For a man who had been at the
helm of affairs for I-League team
Sporting Clube de Goa, who
unceremoniously dumped
Vishwas as a coach a few
seasons back, isn’t fazed by the
past happenings as he has
always given his 100%
wherever his services were
sought for.
Having shun any thoughts of
regrets that he had to do away
with his coaching job at Sporting
despite reviving their fortunes in
the I-League and also having
taken them into the semi-finals
of Durand Cup without a
foreigner, speaks volumes of
Vishwas’ character and his
passion for football.
Vishwas, as the name suggests,
has always won the trust of his
well wishers no matter where he
has lent his services, be it Sesa or
Sporting. Now that the former
Sesa trainer and Sporting coach
has been offered to shape the
fortunes of Calangute
Association in the Goa Pro
League, he is all the more
charged up. Vishwas disclosed
that he has taken charge as
Calangute Association’s coach
and is all the more willing to
offer his best to lift the fortunes
of this club.
"The preparatory camp will
begin at Poriat grounds
tomorrow. I have taken up this
assignment of coaching
Calangute Association as a
challenge and since it is from my
place, I am all the more
determined to give the top
teams a fight during the pro
league," Vishwas said
confidently, adding that he will
go all out to produce results and
that would be his endeavour in
the new season.
Vishwas also disclosed that he
was also approached by Vasco
Club to coach in the pro league
and also take care of their fate in
the second division I-League,
which he said could not
materialize since he was already
committed to Calangute
Association. "I was already
committed to coach Calangute
Association since the offer from
Vasco came much later," pointed
out Vishwas, looking forward to
making a mark in the new
season.

commemorate its Golden Jubilee
celebrations, disclosed the GFA

at a press briefing held at Dempo
House, Campal, here on
Wednesday afternoon.
ten teams will vie for top
honours during the third edition
of the Kingfisher Goa

across five different venues in
the state from September 3. The

Brothers, Salgacoar Sports Club,

da Gama, PJN Stadium (South

(South Goa) -- across Goa so as to
attract more people to the

announcement Divisional Vice
president UB Group, Govind
Tiwari said there was a pool of
talent in Goa and Goa Football
Association (GFA) had done a
commendable job in lifting the
standard of football in the state.
The League, that will be played in
two phases, will witness the
winners of this years I-league
trophy, Salgacoar Sports Club,
among others vying for a prize
purse of Rs 2 lakh and a
Champion Club of Goa trophy.
While the top five teams from
the first phase will go on to play
the Super League, the last five
will have to battle it out in the
relegation league. The
Association has also decided to
restrict the number of foreign
players to three, though the AIFF
has allowed the inclusion of four
overseas players in the team,
said the GFA secretary, Alberto
Colaco.
Sports Club Pomburpha
registered a thrilling 4-3 win
over Sinquerim Sports Club,
Mayem.
Mervin Fernandes put the
Pomburpha outfit ahead in the
4th minute of play, but
Sinquerim not only wiped off the
deficit but also went into the
breather with a goal advantage
as Laxman Harfodkar and
Ramnath Chodankar scored
within the space of two minutes.
On crossing over, Mervin was
once again on target to level
terms for Augustius, before
Ramnath made it 3-2 in favour
of the Mayem club in the 64th
minute.
However, Pomburpha’s never-
say-die spirit was there for all to
see as Pundalik Naik scored a
fine brace to seal full three
points".
