I hope they dont involve IMG-Reliance in their bid process. They are like PANAUTI. IMG-Reliance and clubs like Mumbai Tigers, DSK Shivajians were supposed to build stadiums for World Cup if they are given direct entry in I-league.
:P

India’s chances of hosting the U-17 World Cup in the country in 2017 received a major boost on Friday as the Indian Government ensured that all necessary guarantees, stipulated in the official documents, would be granted to the world football governing body, FIFA. This would enable the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to table the bid as soon as possible.

There was an inherent delay in getting the finer points of the bid, especially with regard to the guarantees, ready as the ministries concerned seemed to be dragging their feet over the matter, so much so that all seemed lost in the Indian FA’s bid to submit the documents before the November 15 deadline. The varied from tax exemption to security and broadcasters and sponsorships.

But all went well as the Indian Sports ministry received all the necessary guarantees from various other ministries and can now submit the bid officially to FIFA who will decide the host at its executive committee meeting, slated for December 3.

“We have got the clearances from several ministries on the guarantees FIFA requires from bidding countries. We have sent the guarantee documents signed by the concerned ministry authorities to the AIFF,” elucidated a top Sports ministry official to The Times Of India.

Kushal Das, general secretary of the AIFF, while acknowledging the guarantees had been granted explained, “We have received the documents from the ministry and so we are submitting to the Fifa. Let us see what happens.”

Other nations competing for the bid include Uzbekistan, Ireland and the 2010 World Cup host South Africa.

The AIFF have had FIFA’s backing in the past of hosting a mega event and that belief received additional strength when FIFA President Sepp Blatter and general secretary Jerome Valcke on a visit to the country, hoped India would be given a chance host a major FIFA event provided infrastructure and facilities were developed first.

The financial details although misty as of now, reveal that the major burden will be hoisted by FIFA and AIFF with the Indian government chipping in with necessary help when required.

The Ministry explained in a statement: “While the expenditure for upgradation of stadia (Rupees Ninety Five Crores) will be provided as additional assistance to State Governments, a sum of Twenty Five Crores has been kept as contingency to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament. AIFF and FIFA have agreed to bear the entire expenditure of hosting the tournament. The amounts required are to be raised through sponsorships and other commercial agreements.”
