Is Pailan Arrows serving its purpose?

I am just wondering now. They were created to groom under-19 players for the World Cup in 2018 (now moved to 2022) but when I looked at the players they play I see alot of players who are like 22, 23, 24 playing. And there are little under-19 players playing.

So are Pailan Arrows really serving the purpose?

the inclusion of jct players have just spoiled the idea which was working fine till its first year....
other reasons are that the lack of ability by aiff to sign a long contract with their ex-arrows players and then letting all left outs of jct in the team and no idea of how to work with the mixture of u-19 national players and jct players....

AIFF ruined it by the following -

    1) While Bulpin was sacked as we don't want the so called 'English Way' of football, but appointed Sukhwinder Singh, who himself follows very defensive formation with counter attacking style very similar to English style
    2) There is a huge squad now. ~35 almost. and I don't think the team is settling into any rhythm.
    3) One can not like Bulpin's tactics but he was very strict coach and maintained a big discipline in the squad. Now that is lost.
    4) The no-relegation clause has taken away the competitive spirit.

Anyway I wont say its a lost cause. Things can still be improved. But at the moment the coaching staff is unable to deliver a single player fit to represent the national squad, unlike last yr - Dika, Jewel, Jeje, Gurpreet, Raju. And even the players who didn't perform are doing well like Manandeep.

Everything you said was true. I dont know why we did not use Bulpin as assistant coach and maybe get Colin Toal as Pailan Arrows coach. He knows the youth players better than anyone else. He is the reason we have Jeje, Manandeep, Raju, etc. Also look at the current batch of u19 players. Sure they lost the u19 qualifiers but they would still beat the Pailan Arrows team we have now 3-0.

I think at the end of the season the AIFF need to cancel there deal with Pailan and sell the team off again with the following restrictions...
    1) You (the buyer) can decide where the team can play.
    2) The team name should be "City" Young Tigers FC (example: New Delhi Young Tigers FC or Nagpur Young Tigers FC)
    3) The team must be under-21 with a roster of 23 MAX! No more than 23!
    4) The coach must be the current Indian under-19 coach (Colin Toal) with the other assistant coaches being his choice.
    5) The under-21 players MUST BE CHOSEN BY HIM!
    6) Every player on the team must be given a weekly salary which is the same for each player (alary must be agreed with the AIFF)
    7) Players must be given accsess to a training ground and at least 4 star hotel and transportation which can take the team anywhere)
    8) The team must play there matches in a FIFA approved stadium.
    9) MUST FOLLOW AFC Criteria and AIFF Criteria.

This is the criteria of a true developmental team. Well actually I bet I am missing somethings but it is better than the "developmental team" (if you can call it that) we have right now.

here are the main issues with the above problems -

    1) Colin Toal has done fantastic job in scouting these players and nurturing them initially and the job doesnt stop there, his job will go on. So, AIFF is keeping him for bringing in more talents. Quite rightly, in my opinion.

    2) Pailan deal was achieved after lot of trouble. To be honest there are no takers for a developmental team. AIFF almost lucky to get Pailan.

    3) Name change can be done, but Pailan would want some visibility, why invest on a team which no one follows? When it was called Indian Arrows, nothing had changed although theoretically all Indians should follow them. Crowd support was almost Zero (mostly below 100, that too by player's friends and junior players mainly). Of course, in this case too the buyer decided where to play.

    4) Team u-23 is struggling, and u-21 will be better? Probably not!

    AGAIN <!-- s:bow-plusone: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bow/plusone.gif" alt=":bow-plusone:" title="PlusOne" /><!-- s:bow-plusone: --> You make a lot of valid points.

    1) I agree on Colin Toal. Well what about this then, how about Robert Baan and Colin Toal work together to find a coach suitible to the job in the style they both want.

    2) True. The only way I can see something like I mentioned in my last post work is if the IMG-AIFF hope is true and that marketing opporotunites are opened up at the end of the season.

    3) Why not shirt sponsor or if they can get the field at Pailan Headquarters AFC Certified for I-League matches they could name the stadium Pailan Field. Marketing is up to Pailan (or any oher sponsor.

    4) Those 23 year olds though come from JCT. These are youngsters that are not ready and if they were good would have been on India youth teams before. The U19 should beat these overrrated youngsters. And I bet the current batch of u19 players could make midtable I-League (10th place actually in my opinion)

yeah true but these will take time....i think aiff wants to do similar things, thats why keeping the clause that this team wont be relegated...so they have long term plans

Maybe AIFF put in Sukhi to coach as a short term solution..lets see what happens next year
Need a Under19 league to solve all problems and have maximum number of players playing.

Ya. I think that when the AIFF thought about it they saw that most of the players were leaving and that the JCT U19 winners would have no club because of the first team disbanding. So they decided to allow those former Indian Arrows players to leave and bring in the JCT youngsters becuase they have to be good as they won the I-League U19.

Thing is though, I-League U19 is crap and the format was crap.
  • Ya so remember when we all said that this new team was back after Sukwinder left. Well I dont know about you guys but I take back what I said. After watching the Pailan Arrows 1-1 Pune FC Highlights I am not convinced. Players on Pailan cant even get good contact on the ball. It is so silly to say the least.

    Here is the video...

Wait a min, do you think after Sukhwinder leaves, Arrows players can MAGICALLY get technical competence which they have? Or has anyone accused that Sukhwinder didn't allow Arrows to show their trickery!!!!

The issue with Sukhwinder was the tactics Arrows were following and the team selection....
