Dr. B.C. Roy Trophy - 2012

The tournament was instituted by the AIFF in 1962. It was known as the Junior Nationals and was restricted to boys under 19 years. The Indian Football Association (IFA) of West Bengal presented this trophy in memory of the former Chief Minister of Bengal, Dr.B.C.Roy. The then president of the IFA, M Dutta Ray also presented the runners up trophy, known as the Mohan Dutta Ray trophy.
The first Junior Nationals were held in Burnpur and Bengal emerged as the champions beating Orissa in the final. Bengal is the most successful team in this competition, being sixteen times winners and five times runners up.
The Tournament is restricted to the players Under 19 years of age.

48th Junior National Football Championship for Dr. B C ROY TROPHY 2011-12, Tier 1 & 2 will be held simultaneously at Siliguri, West Bengal and Cuttack, Orissa. The Championship will be played from January 18th to 29th 2012.

I'm impressed with the new format,I hope AIFF and State Associations work harder and make the tournament much better in future.

Teams getting more matches to play hence selectors can have have a good look of all the players.

I am not a fan of this youth state team tournament but I must say that this is a good tournament so far. It seems to be a great way to find talent and where to invest in next for more young talent.
