Muscat: Oman enjoyed a confidence-boosting win ahead their crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Thailand by easing to a 5-1 friendly win over India, who are gearing up for their 2012 AFC Challenge Cup campaign.
Oman went one up after just five minutes through Mohammed Al Ghassani before Kuwait-based striker Ismail Al Ajmi doubled their advantage just two minutes later.
Al Ajmi, who plays his club football for AFC Cup 2012 qualifiers Kazma, added a second in the 58th minute and while Dempo striker Joaquim Abranches reduced the deficit in the 64th minute Oman went on to rubber stamp their superiority with two more late goals courtesy of Hassan Rabia (87th) and Abdullah Thuwaini (90th).
Oman face Thailand on February 29 needing to defeat the three-time ASEAN champions and hope that Australia defeat Saudi Arabia on the same day if the Gulf Sultanate are to join the Socceroos in the draw for the fourth round of Asian qualifiers for Brazil 2014, which takes place on March 9 in Kuala Lumpur.
India coach Savio Medeira, meanwhile, has plenty of food for thought ahead of the Bhangra Boys' AFC Challenge Cup campaign which also kicks-off on March 9 when the 2008 champions face beaten finalists Tajikistan at the Dashrath Stadium. <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: --> <!-- s:angry-screaming: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/angry/screaming.gif" alt=":angry-screaming:" title="Screaming" /><!-- s:angry-screaming: -->

Let them do something to earn the title of 'Blue tiger'.

We should do what the US National Team does, which is have the regulars and youngsters earn there name on the jersey. That means for all the India friendlies and small tournaments dont put the player names on the jerseys. Also have all the players work in the offseason. That means that all the national team players, instead of lazying around and going on long breaks they should attempt practices abroad over the summer. I dont mean that they should join foreign teams, I mean that they should practice with them. If Anwar can practice with Coventry City FC then so can any other Indian. Also it does not have to be English, it can be any team in any league, as long as that Indian player gets to practice then its good for him because they need to stay fit. That is what Bob Houghton did. That is how we were able to have an okay Asian Cup. Yes Subrata was 80% of it but it was the fact that the players were fit as well.
If these players can do that then they have earned there place on the team.

<!-- s:bow-plusone: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/bow/plusone.gif" alt=":bow-plusone:" title="PlusOne" /><!-- s:bow-plusone: --> something like this should be brought even at the club level,because all our indian players dont have the habit to keep themselves fit as quoted by many foreign coaches as well and this low fitness level does affect our national team performances badly

Thanks. I would suggest that the Indian players go to Japan, Korea and the United States. Great leagues and great facilities and I am certain that ALL 2nd and 3rd Division American clubs would take an Indian International for training and maybe even sign them.
India needs a strong league. Only
in this way can grow young
players. If some players will play
in the U.S. in the lower leagues,
this doesn't improve Indian
football.

agree
but also our team selection sucks...we don't even have best guys in the i league selected for national team.

Mate have you ever seen a United States 2nd Division game! The level of play there is so much better than I-League. I-League is the equal to a small team in the US 3rd Division. Playing there will improve Indian Football as it would increase the chances of an MLS scout looking at that Indian in the 2nd Division and bringing him up because they know the marketing opportunities. Dont doubt the league just because of name. Its like a Australian saying that the Big Bash Cricket league is a step up to Indian Premier League even though IPL is better.
