Just spoke to some guys in the know:<div><br></div><div>An alternative to all the negativity regarding the IMG deal,( i feel it's because the information hasn't been clearly explained).....I'll attempt to play devils advocate and suggest why this COULD work...</div><div>Bear in mind.... the current system:</div><div>No Revenue, TV companies are not interested in the current league and neither are corporates(investors) or sponsors( both TV advertising & endorsements)</div><div>No gate receipts in 99% of the matches ( the MB vs EB derby attracts 80,0000 spectators but doesn't generate even 8 Lakhs profit !!, SLFC and USFC could avg 15,000 per game , not all games are sold out , so thats about 1 CR profit each season MAX. i.e 1 decent player at todays rates.</div><div>No youth development ( no interest from clubs , & no incentive)</div><div>All leads to a CRAPPY National Team & as long as the I-League & NFL have been around the National Teams rankings have slipped considerably.</div><div>----</div><div>Lets try this New concept,it could be something like this :</div><div>2 Zones to ensure a cheaper & more efficient I-League</div><div>12 Teams : 2 Zones : East & West</div><div>West ( Pune FC, Mumbai FC, Dempo, Salgaocar, Sporting Club de Goa & Churchill Brothers)</div><div>East Zone ( Mohun Bagan , East Bengal , Prayag Utd, Pailan Arrows, USFC & SLFC )</div><div>Top 2 from each qualify for a play-offs:</div><div>( due to the knock out nature , TV companies will BUY into this, as they do for Fed CUp semi's onwards)</div><div>

the point they make , is the current system CLEARLY doesn't work<div><br></div><div>Why not try this system that has worked behind the scenes :</div><div>i,e This new system has already pricked the interest of sponsors, TV , investors etc.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>The new system will ensure more chance for junior players compared to current system and will force clubs to spend on Youth development , at the same time giving them the revenue to do so.</div><div><br></div><div>Also enables clubs to make money from player development, Fed Cup can be where I-League clubs scout for hidden talents from PSU teams , and take them onto their books in the hope that they get picked in the auction.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
Though i like the format...but the only concern for me is that this league will the interest of i-league clubs indirectly<div><br></div><div>the only way i could see this league being implemented is if they replace i-league and transform it into the new structure with franchises included in i-league directly and force few clubs to move out of their present location if they wanna stay in the league</div>
@gaffertape<div>The things you have mentioned, assuming that is how it is gonna be(or are they ur proposals?) make sense. The I-league clubs should benefit from the Quick-Fix League. But the point is, will the i-league stay relevant? As it is, we are struggling. to get people visit the matches. When we divide them into east-west zones, no Mohun Bagan, no East Bengal will play against the teams in west. It is a well known fact that a lot of people are attracted to d stadium due to presence of these teams.</div><div><br></div><div>Also, with the clubs profiting from the Super League, wouldnt their focus will shift from I-league which is a liability for them?</div>
A case in point is that IPL did not make Ranji Trophy popular. Rather they are thinking of revamping the Ranji trophy format itself to keep it relevant.

<br><div><br></div><div>They obviously got confused and thought that the IPL football league was the I-League LOL.</div>
