While Ishfaq passed the course, Indian team's assistant coach Shanmugam Venkatesh was only provisionally passed.....

Ishfaq Ahmed, who turned out for Indian Super League (ISL) side Kerala Blasters in the three previous editions of the tournament, has passed his Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 'B' license coaching course.

The 34-year-old is one among eight candidates to pass the course conducted by All India Football Federation (AIFF) Technical Director Savio Medeira from April 10th to 30th in Goa. However, Indian national team assistant coach Shanmugam Venkatesh, one among the 20 candidates to attend the course, could only provisionally pass.

Ishfaq Ahmed, who served as a player-cum-coach for Kerala Blasters in the 2016 season in which they reached the final of the tournament under head coach Steve Coppell, has added credibility to his role and might move into coaching on a permanent basis.

Ishfaq was also involved in scouting for the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned franchise along with former India international NP Pradeep.

Here is the list of candidates who have passed the course:

PASSED: Ishfaq Ahmed, Joyner Eulogius Antao, Jatin Singh Bedi, MK Candid MAring, Prashant Pardeep Paradkar, Shameel Chembakath, Ramesh Gangaram Bista, Gopal Badrilal Kag.

PRO-PASSED: Venkatesh Shanmugam, Bijoy Kumar Ghosh.

The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) baby leagues project is likely to see the first pilot run in Mumbai in early July, more than four months later than it was originally meant to be unveiled as a step to increase participation in football at an earlier age and to encourage greater round-the-year engagement with the sport across the country. The project was conceived and driven by Richard Hood, AIFF's head of youth development, and Savio Medeira, the federation's technical director.

All India Football Federation has arranged for two International matches for the Indian U-23 National Team as part of the preparation process for the forthcoming AFC U-23 Championships slated to be held in Doha.

National Coach Stephen Constantine felt the games would be a “learning experience” for the team.

“It’s been two weeks that we have been together and the U-23 boys need competitive games. The tour to Singapore would be a valuable experience for the squad to gauge the intensity of International encounters. I thank AIFF for arranging the matches ahead of our AFC Qualifiers,” he stated.

“The games would be competitive and provide us the much needed exposure,” he further added. It has been under Constantine’s coaching that the Senior Indian National Team has jumped 73 places in the FIFA Rankings to be currently placed 100.

AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das said the primary objective of the AIFF is to provide the “best exposure to all National Teams.”

“It is really frustrating that despite applying well in advance and after multiple follow-ups for the US visas we failed to get any response from the concerned authorities. I need to thank the Singapore FA for agreeing to the two International matches which would provide valuable practice for our U-23 boys prior to the AFC U-23 Qualifiers,” he said.

The U-23 Team presently preparing in the Capital since June 19 will fly to Singapore in the first week of July from where they will directly proceed to take on Turkmenistan, Qatar and Syria in Group C from July 19 onwards.
