Alleging that India would be barred by FIFA to bid for hosting under 20 Football World Cup after Delhi high court quashed election of its office bearers, All India Football Federation on Wednesday moved Supreme Court seeking a stay on HC order and to pave way for office bearers to resume their job as the football administrator.
The Delhi high court had earlier nominated former chief election commissioner SY Quraishi as the administrator.
The court had said that fresh elections should be held within five months as AIFF had violated the sports code.
Seeking an urgent hearing on the appeal against HC verdict, advocate Amit Anand Tiwari contended that country's bid to host under 20 World Cup would be rejected by FIFA which recognised only elected body. He told a bench headed by Justice J Chelameswar that last date for bidding is on Tuesday and pleaded the bench to conduct hearing on his plea on Friday. Agreeing with Tiwari's submission, the court listed the case for hearing on Friday.
Acting on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by lawyer Rahul Mehra, the HC had quashed AIFF election held on December 20, 2016, in which Praful Patel was re-elected unopposed for the third term as president of the football governing body.
Patel first became acting president of the AIFF for a one-year term after former president Priya Ranjan Das Munshi suffered a cardiac arrest in 2008. However, in October 2009, he became full-time president and was re-elected in December 2012.
@munna219777: In my opinion, Robin has rather outlived his usefulness in the team...he might score the odd goal now and then and will be somewhat of a threat because of his height but according to me, Manvir Singh is a better choice

The decline of I-League
With IMG-R, AIFF’s new patron, seeing no future in the ‘lacklustre’ I-League, the existence of the 20-year-old League, is surely at stake.
