There was a time in Bob Houghton days when Chennai JLN Stadium was the only FIFA certified stadium in India. For 2010 World Cup Qualification, we were scheduled to play one-off match with Lebanon. At the last moment, there were heavy rains in Chennai. FIFA okayed shifting the match to Goa Margao Stadium.
@shanks_dehighliving Is it possible that in the case of Bangalore stadium, tickets were not sold for the section which has no Bucket seats for World Cup match !!
This used to be old news- between 2005 and 2010. Salt Lake stadium was under experiments of grass to artifical and back to grass plus floodlights issue, JLN Delhi renovated completely for Commonwealth games, JLN of Margao and Cochin being used for Cricket.
Football was not given entry in Big Athletic stadiums in those days. Later on, things changed.
JLN Chennai was there but again it was hardly hosting Football games. There is definitely some politics involved. Chennai is the best venue for Davis Cup Tennis. It can be called capital of Tennis in India. It is always overlooked for Davis cup despite requests by players. It has been overlooked for Football. Even Chennaiyin FC declined to play AFC Cup games there.
