National Sports Code 2011 and interference by Delhi High Court and Supreme Court will create problems for Indian sports. After Football and Hockey, Indian Olympic Association has received notice from IOC.
This Bill / Code is discriminatory in nature and hurts autonomy by interference by Govt / court.
One by one, different sports associations may get banned or will not be allowed under India flag unless issues are resolved.
FIFA wants AIFF To Add Eminent Players In Executive Committee
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been asked by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) to add eminent players as co-opted members rather than elected members to the AIFF governing body. They also added that while the voice of the players needs to be heard, the significance of the current members should not be diminished.
FIFA-AFC addressed their points in a letter to Sunando Dhar, the interim general secretary of the AIF with reference to the clause ‘Presence of Eminent Players (Article 1.18 and Article 20.2) in the General Body (Congress) of the AIFF’.
Instead of the 50 percent that CoA had specified in the draft constitution, FIFA has advised AIFF to have 25% of prominent players as co-opted members of its Executive Committee.
To bring in 50 per cent of the members in the Congress structure which equals the current membership structure is not prudent idea, and the AIFF should seek to be more diverse in future. However, we understand the requirements of the (National) Sports Code of India and recommend AIFF to bring in a presence of above 25 per cent of the Eminent Players in the AIFF Executive Committee as Co-opted Members
FIFA-AFC
The letter also addresses worries expressed by local football stakeholders that the Supreme Court may rule that any foreseeable changes to the AIFF Statutes would require a new court approval.
Following the SC’s removal of the office holders led by Praful Patel and the imposition of severe timelines for holding elections by September 15, a FIFA-AFC team visited the nation last month to assess the situation. In order to allow AIFF to organise elections, the Supreme Court is likely to adopt the constitution in its final form during its hearing on July 28.
