In AIFF, how many office bearers are shareholders of IMG league? how many office bearers are making money of disjointed 2nd Division where one lucky association makes money by hosting all the games??? Difficult to bring out meaningful changes as vested interests will Veto it.
@gaffertape That is where I disagree. It is so easy to say you can get teams from Chennai, Karnataka, and 2 Goan teams etc to form a year round league but again, is it actually feasible or viable?
My personal opinion is that we need to close the I-League so that we can have the current I-League clubs develop/modernize and that we slowly develop a proper state league model which would allow the best clubs from each selected state to develop at their own pace while playing clubs in their own state only with only a few select trips outside their state for domestic cups and what not.
Then once both are ready we can form a 2nd Division, one which boasts clubs who are stable on and off the field. I just don't think we have that now. It is known that clubs in India overall don't have much money at all and for clubs outside the I-League that is even more true.
In that case we need to find better ways to spend whatever money a club has. In a proper 2nd Division you would have to pay to travel nationally or to just 1 venue but no one wants that so to cut the cost of travel just have them play in their state league only. Now the money can be put into other things that, to me at least, are more important like youth development, infrastructure, and just an overall professional running of a football club.
If a club feels however that they are better than this then they can simply apply for the I-League.
I just don't see the need for a 2nd Division when it is quite obvious we don't need one.
New teams to the I-league? Dont get me started am already fuming X(
@Arsenal If closing the I-league is implemented (Lets hope we are really positive and have a perfect & happy completion of this task ) Then by the time you decide to have a 2nd tier then below will be the impacts
- Huge gulf in class and finance power from the I-league teams with that of 2nd div. (Look at England & the problems faced in the gulf between EPL & Football league) - Monopolisation of youth in just a few clubs, Not much spread in scouting network - I-league would be stuck with limited geographies (Current problem faced by India) by the time the other geographies would have moved on to another sport again what AIFF doesnt want.
Loads of negatives, I like the current structure with all its problems with 2nd div clubs getting promoted to I-league, Its the marketing and commercial viability that needs to be figured. The solution should not be stopping new clubs from hoping to play in the I-league.
@arsenalfan700 lots of people dislike my posts should I ask them the reason ? and please don't force others to agree with you if they don't agree leave it.
