Wondering why CLT20 getting such importance to star that Isl schedule has to be changed and subsequently fed cup and I league. CLT20 isn't that damn popular like IPL.

CLT20 will probably still get more viewers than ISL. Also with Premier League happening as well it could make ISL non-important. This way now we will have more importance as it will only really be Premier League we deal with.

My concern primarily is not why ISL is delayed for CLT20, rather why is AIFF killing I-league/ Fed Cup slowly. Why they cannot be bolder, businesslike and transparent. If AIFF want to kill the old tournaments and install new ones in place of them, why aren't they doing it NOW? So many countries have ventured into it in the recent past.

If they continue to have both ISL and I-league parallelly, the problems are being swept under the carpet and will haunt them in the coming seasons. This lack of boldness (and the inherent cloak-and-dagger policy associated with it) will harm Indian football in the days to come.

That the questions of surrendering everything to a private league and that of accommodating the mass-based clubs in the new league are not being discussed are separate issues, but have to be discussed at the outset. They cannot go away from those.

@Deb_Ban I am just going to take a stab at this. Not saying I am right but just guessing. First off, the ISL can not get FIFA sanctioning due to its format. Therefore none of the players can be selected for India as only players from FIFA sanctioned leagues can play in FIFA international matches. So having the I-League will help keep the national team in a way.

Secondly, the format is the way it is because of the risk of being in football in India. I doubt investors and the AIFF want to go full force and create a full ISL, replacing the I-League and Fed Cup, without any back-up just in case ISL fails. This way the league is still here. My weak take on this. Also the IPL factor plays massively into it.

@arsenalfan, I think you are right; I-league probably will stay, to satisfy the rules and as an ISL-back up, thereby keeping the whole thing more jumbled up.

You are also right when you mention the IPL. The money motive is the strongest driving force here. And most of the gravy train will be lapped up by IMG-R (that is, discounting Pro-fool's share). I wouldn't have minded if the league was owned by AIFF (well, jointly, with the clubs) as is the case elsewhere.

I also think AIFF haven't done enough for I-league. Whatever is promised to ISL (joint ownership, revenue-sharing, telecast, and so on), could have been given to I-league as well. Instead, they are stifling it.

i thought aiffs stand a few years ago was to expand the i league to improve the talent base, the footballing culture.

now they are banking on isl cant they realise after i league falls n img reliance realises to gain over the indian epl audience it is useless to have any indian player in the squad img can monopolise to their wish

Without a stable league we will never be able to produce good players. What we need is a 10 Month football calender where the league runs for atleast 8-9 months to keep the players competitive and fit through-out the year.

2 month ISL then poorly scheduled I-league only run for 4 months is a huge set-back for National Team and no wonder Wim is disappointed. This way I don't think Indian football is going anywhere there is no point in crying like an idiot tomorrow when we are beaten by teams like Nepal, Afghanistan etc.

    killing of I-league
    1. shorten for 6 months to 5 months
    2. preventing entry of chennai city buy booking the stadium by IMG
    3. cancellation of new entry bid
    4. throwing out a club who passed AFC license because they opposed ISL
    5. reducing teams to 10 in name of AFC criteria
    6. Mohammedan SC (anti-isl) thrown out,Churchill anti-ISL thrown out , ragdajeet anti-ISL thrown out but most surprising Mumbai fc pro-isl has pass the national license

@Ashindia I agree but lets try to be optimistic here. Perhaps this will only be our "spent money" in a way... like from the saying "You got to spend money, to make money". So for Indian football, you got to endure a few years of jumbled schedules, some weird rules, national team difficulties etc but we reach a time when perhaps ISL is 7-8 months long, the schedule is more easier and simple to follow, and the national team can start to flourish.
