In 2008, Bayern Munich signed MOU with West Bengal Government for an Academy. What happened? Seriously guys MOU nowadays is mostly PR propaganda, attempt to get some land, tax credits, bank loans, CSR and juggling of Balance sheets of an organisation accounts. We should take it seriously only if we see some actual progress.

@munna if I remember correctly then Bayern Munich was seriously interested but the then West Bengal Government failed to provide them land due to political pressure from opponent.

Yes Thats why we should see these things implemented. Our AIFF Academies are not in that good shape. We need more academies in the country - AIFF or Tata Model. Can IMG-ISL build a Residential  Academy after so much of Lets Football?

wouldn't it be feasible if Bayern Munich buys small share of 5-10% in east Bengal or mohan bagan and acquire their academy instead of looking for land and starting from scratch ...then they will give technical support in academy .....

@preetam Well they have their own business model. They will have freedom in running their own academy in their way. Plus owning their academy improves their Balance sheets, Net worth worldwide as these clubs run like a Business Corporation. What will they gain by giving money to Indian clubs 5-10%? They are not a charity organisation!!!

  • I can recall MOU between East Bengal & Leicester. It started with a bang. EB participated to a four clubs tournament including Real Mallorca (Eto was there), Leicester City and one more team. EB played well and lost to Leicester city by a solitary goal, remember Ian Walker was the goalkeeper of Leicester and was deputy of David James then.  In the next match they lost 1-4 to Mallorca. Bhaichung, Rajat, Dipak, Alvito earned respect from British press. Nothing happened afterwards.

Munich's representatives explored almost entire Bengal and selected a land in Bardwan, but the - then government was unable to acquire that land and Munich lost interest as correctly said by @archak.

I can identify Bhaichung, Rajat, Climax, Deepak & Madhab Das.

That time they had Foreigners like Douglas, Junior, Mike Okoro, Suley Musa plus Indian players like Baichung, Bijen Singh, Alvito D'Cunha. That was the era when they won ASEAN Cup.
