I personally found the article very very touchy. I posted it on a bunch of football related facebook groups I am in and a lot of people like it. It's very heart rending how extremely skillful players of yore never cared much about money and were far more committed than the present bunch.

I feel very sad that I don't have videos of the 70-80s to post by the side, which would clearly show the kind of skill players had at that time. Going by the kind of money floating around these days and the pathetic skill level of Indian players, even if I take inflation into account year by year, the current lot is SERIOUSLY OVERPAID, exactly what many foreigners are even pointing out.

Subrata Bhattacharya, the Mohun Bagan coach this season was paid a meagre 35k rupees by Mohun Bagan for an entire season's work in 1989 in spite of having scored 9 goals that season, and mind you, he was a central defender, such was his commitment towards the team that he scored 9 goals in addition to successfully handling his defensive duties, no wonder he verbally abuses the present lot given their callousness, lack of skill and gross unprofessionalism. In 1990, Subrata's salary was raised to 90K for the entire season for his excellent performance the previous season.

While I don't mind the players being paid BIG MONEY, I DEMAND international levels of skill and professionalism from them.

Hopefully by the next 2-3 years with the number of acedemy comming up , there will be more youth talent that will be spotted and played in d I-league teams. this wil create a excess of talent and should weed out the unskilled players and their demand for high wages.. keeping my fingers crossed this happens..It does irritate me no end lousy talent can demand and get paid such wages..

I 2 agree with you and lament the fact we do no have videos of out skillfull players of the 50's 60's & 70's..that will be a ttreasure to find..If only India had teh culture to remeber our history..we dont even honour our Fallen soldiers with a appropriate moneument so i dont expect AIFF d official guysto have any such video recordings..
